Peer Support

Peer Support Training

On the 20th of February, I had the privilege to work with 16 other year 11 students from Lalor Secondary College. We all participated in the Peer Support training with Stride. During the training we took part in a number of different activities such as find the person which was a great icebreaker activity to form student friendships with our cohort.

We brainstormed ideas that we could bring in to different lessons with our younger students at the school in order to help them transition into secondary school. Some other categories were, ‘Have you Ever’ which was a great skill to get everyone involved in a conversation so we could get to know each other more and work out how we can share ideas together.

We learnt other skills such as “How to be a good Communicator’ which helped us develop skills to mentor younger students, how to react positively and how to manage a class and get them eager to learn. Everyone enjoyed the day and we all able to take away a wide range of skills and techniques from the program. It helped us build on our character, so that we could funnel those skills down to the younger year levels.
