Bullying. No Way!

WHOLE SCHOOL SUPPORT

Friday 20th March is the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence and the Girton Senior Prefects, along with support from the House Prefects, and the Junior School, are involved in a range of activities to heighten awareness of a range of issues that stem from bullying.

School Captain, Lucie Griffin (12 Frew), along with Fraser Lee (8 Frew) launched the Senior School campaign in assembly this week, and in particular, spoke about some of the reasons that bullying occurs. Lucie and Fraser also addressed the Junior School assembly, along with the Junior School Captains, to help launch activities for our younger students.

The Senior School students have designed posters featuring their own slogans to promote positive self-esteem, kindness and inclusion. Senior Prefects and House Prefects will be working with Junior School students on classroom exercises related to bullying and helping them to come up with their very own Junior School posters.

One of the Senior School initiatives entails posing a question related to bullying on whiteboards and inviting students to provide anonymous comments on ‘sticky notes’ which will be collected and reviewed to gain an idea of student thoughts on bullying.

In the Junior School, the Peppercorn tree will be decorated with leaves with positive comments from students, and students will have the opportunity to make friendship bracelets and posters. Junior School and School Captains will address students at the final term whole-school assembly.

A day of celebration and inclusion will take place on Thursday 19th March, when the Senior Prefects will join forces with the Girton Community Action Group (GCAG) and host a fundraising barbeque at lunchtime. The barbeque will be a celebration of Harmony Day, supported by the GCAG, and will act as a reminder of the importance of being kind and of inclusiveness.
