Girton Racing Team

Victorian HPVF Grand Prix Series

Round 1, Lang Lang 6-Hour

On the 1st of March, 26 riders making up 3 teams travelled down to Lang Lang to compete at the 6-hour HPV race as part of the Victorian HPV series.  After final preparations, the race started at 10am and ended at 4pm with the race being a big success for the Girton Racing Team.

The Senior trike, Intrepid, had a great start, with riders maintaining their early lead throughout most of the race but then had a major mechanical issue that pushed Intrepid back into 2nd place, five laps behind the new leader.  Back on track after the long delay in the pits the team pulled together and each rider rode incredibly well to claw back the gap to first and within the last 30 mins of the race retook the lead position and finished 1st in the Senior Secondary division.

Team Introuble, in the Middle Open division had a rough start to the race with a crash that left the trike in pits getting fixed for longer than hoped. After getting back on track the hard-working riders managed to place 4th with the young team, some first-time riders, very happy with their race.

Team Intent had a mixture of parents, teachers and students rode in the Community division. Although not being a serious threat to other more experienced and accomplished teams in this category the riders all raced well and finished 9th, with big smiles on all their faces.

We would like to thank everyone involved in the GRT community for their support to get out teams ready for the first event of the year. Special recognition goes to Mr Robin Kirby, Mr Andrew Turpie and Mr Gino Iluniano for their tireless efforts in preparing the trikes. Congratulations too, to all the riders who competed at the event.

GRT members are now back into the workshop and out on the training track preparing for the next Vic Series event, a huge 24-hour event held on Winton Raceway.
