Performing Arts

It’s production year!!!

I am so excited already and looking forward to developing our bi-annual production with the assistance of the staff here at CHPS.

There have been some changes since 2017 and I wanted to take the time in our Newsletter to explain:  After the success of the Year 6 Graduation last year at Patterson River Secondary College, we have decided we need to move our production to their theatre.  For many years, we have put on a great show at our school, but as the school has grown, so have the needs of our shows.  Patterson River has a wonderful professional theatre that will cater for our students, at a fraction of the cost to hire the seating, staging, lighting and sound in our own gym.

This does mean that children will be transported by bus to and from the theatre for the rehearsals, at a cost to parents, but we will still be able to keep the ticket prices low and have more money to spend on costumes and set!  Sounds exciting to me.

In order to provide a rich learning experience for all students, we will be having separate shows for our different year levels.  This year, due to the expansion of the school, there will be THREE shows, instead of two; a JUNIOR school show (F – 2), a MIDDLE school show (3 – 4) and a SENIOR school show (5 – 6).

If you are lucky enough to have students in all 3 levels, rest assured that there will be a "buy 2 get one free" ticket deal for the shows.  If you need to see 2 shows, there will be a 25% discount on the price.

I am sure by now you know the title and the format of the show this year (hopefully your children have talked about it with excitement at home over the dinner table), however if you do not know, here is the information you require AT THIS STAGE:

SHOW: Alice through the Alphabet and into WONDERLAND

A self-devised piece of theatre that has been adapted from the play ‘Alice in Wonderland’.

Each class will be a letter of the Alphabet that will determine their script, song choice and characters. There will be some lead roles available for the more ‘dedicated drama student’, these will involve students working with a variety of classes at they play the roles of Alice, The White Rabbit, Mad Hatter and the Queen of Hearts.

The show is set over 3 nights:

DATES:

Tuesday 10th September – JUNIOR SCHOOL SHOW (Matinee and Evening show) (A – K of the Alphabet)

Wednesday 11th September – MIDDLE SCHOOL SHOW (Matinee and Evening) (L – Z of the alphabet)

Thursday 12th September – SENIOR SCHOOL SHOW (Matinee and Evening show) (Alice in Wonderland the Original play)

PLEASE LOCK THESE DATES INTO YOUR CALENDAR AS THEY WILL NOT CHANGE.

TIME:

6:30pm arrival for a 7pm show.  The length of the shows will increase for each level (JUNIOR - 70 minutes, MIDDLE - 90 minutes, SENIOR - 110 minutes)

Production Levy:

As in previous years there will be a levy to cover the cost of MOST your child’s costume.  This will also need to cover the BUS to and from the theatre on their day of performance for the Matinee.  You would be required to bring your child to the theatre for the evening show (as per previous years).

The Production levy information will be going out to parents at the END of TERM 1, to be paid in TERM 2.

The levy will be $15 per student.

This is a very exciting opportunity for our school as we continue to grow and present quality performances to our local community.  There will be a LOT more information coming out to you, but at this stage I just wanted to let you know what our Leadership team, School Council and Staff have agreed upon as the best way to produce a beautiful show for our school.  Please if you have any questions, feel free to catch me in the playground after school or shoot me a phone call.
