Principal Report

Student Goals and Learning

On Tuesday night we had an amazing number of parents attend our ‘Information night on student goals.’

Thank-you to those parents who came along. If you missed the presentation it is available online. Ongoing reports and student goals are available every three weeks.

The learning goals will assist parents to see what children are learning and enable parents to help them. You will see the strategies you can use to assist at home.

In the following three weeks you will also be able to view achievement of those goals.

It is very important you –

  • Access COMPASS to view the goals.
  •  Talk to your children about their learning goals – children will know the learning goals they need to work on.
  • Make an appointment with the class teacher to discuss the ongoing reporting, success or concerns at any time. Please don’t wait until mid-year if you have concerns.

We believe by being able to access ongoing reports/goals that parents will be far more informed about their children’s progress & learning.

  • If you need assistance with COMPASS please contact the office.
  • You will receive an alert each time you have the ongoing report sent out.
  • Next weeks ‘Newsletter’ will contain: The Terms Curriculum Outline for each year level.

Student Safety

Please ensure you are safe when dropping children off at the school in your car.

PLEASE don’t double park or let children exit the car from the road side (right-side of the car).

The Drop off zone at the front of the school is not for parking during 8:30am-9:00am & 2:30pm -3:15pm. Children can be dropped here & then the car must keep moving. – Kiss and drop!

Our crossing lady has also asked that we remind you of the following when picking up and dropping of their children:

  • Wait for the whistle before proceeding onto the crossing
  • Do not park in the "No Parking" areas near the crossing as cars tend to back on to the crossing when leaving.

Breakfast Program

Our breakfast program starts next week in our kitchen on Wednesday at 8:15am. Breakfast is free.

If you can please help we would appreciate it (please let the office know).

Uniform

A big thanks to everyone for having children in correct uniform.

Proficiency Scales

This coming Friday (14th February), year level teams will be uploading Proficiency Scales for Reading and Mathematics via Compass Newsfeed.   The Proficiency Scales that will be uploaded will focus on just the Term One content area.

A Proficiency Scale is a set of learning objectives on a specific topic or outcome.  The Scale is organised into a progression representing their level of difficulty.

The purpose is to:

  • Ensure consistency across each year level and for teachers to use when planning and identifying individual goals for students.
  • Communicate with our parent community about what students are learning.

When looking at the Proficiency Scales you will notice:

  • The curriculum area, year level and links to the Victorian Curriculum at the top.
  • Down the side, statements sectioned into Score 2, Score 3 and Score 4.
  • I can statements sequenced from the least difficult at the bottom to the most difficult at the top.

By the end of the year, we would like your child to achieve the statements in ‘Score 3’.  This is what is ‘expected’ for their year level.  Sometimes we may have students working below or above the statements in the Proficiency Scales.  ‘Score 2’ focuses on learning that is required before they reach ‘Score 3’.  ‘Score 4’ focuses on deepening their thinking of ‘Score 3’.

Finally, when viewing student learning goals, you will be able to relate this directly back to the Proficiency Scales.  This will help you understand whether your child is currently working towards goals that are at their level, above or below.  Please be aware that it is only very early in the year.  Many children may be working within Score 2.
