Principal's Message

From the Principal

Congratulations to our Year 6 students on their performance in the state wide Religious Education Test. The school’s average result was well above the Diocesan average. Of the 84 students who sat the exam, 9 students received a High Distinction, 25 a Distinction and 34 a Credit. The students and teachers can feel very proud of their performance in this test which exams the students’ religious literacy.

Mrs Lisa Smith has accepted a position as Aboriginal Education Assistant at McCarthy Catholic College. It is with sadness that we say goodbye to Lisa who has been part of our school community for the past 5 years and has been a wonderful support to the teachers and our students. We wish Lisa all the best in her new role and what the future holds.

As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, each year the Armidale Catholic Schools Office requires schools to participate in School Satisfaction Surveys. Between the 12th and 23rd August all Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 students, as well as staff are required to complete these surveys. Parents will also receive an email requesting them to complete the survey as well. I encourage you all to participate as this allows the school to plan for future improvement. The survey will take about 15 minutes to complete. If anyone does not receive the reminder email it means we do not have your current email address. Please see General News for further details.

The students are very excited about tomorrow’s Book Week dress up. I am very much looking forward to seeing the students come to school tomorrow dressed up as their favourite character from a book. Book Week officially starts on Sunday with this year’s theme being “Reading is my Secret Power”. Take extra time to read with your children over the next few weeks.

At this time of the year the Catholic Schools Office begins requesting information from the school regarding staffing for next year. Could I ask that parents who may not be in Tamworth next year, to inform the school so we can continue to plan staffing for next year.

Here is a little snippet from Dr John Medina, a Professor of Bioengineering, "kids praised for effort complete 50 percent more hard math problems than kids praised for intelligence". There is a lesson in this for all of us.
