Clay target shooting

On June 17th, 7 Maffra SC students travelled to the Sale Field and Game Range at Longford to compete in the 2019 Howard and Schuback Gippsland Interschool Simulated Clay Target Championships.

It was a nice sunny day that lent itself to some good shooting by all. Over 100 students from 9 schools across Gippsland attended the 42nd Howard & Schuback Inter-school shoot. The event was conducted over 20 targets per shooter, over 2 separate layouts of 10 targets.

Our Maffra group of 7shooters made up of Jack MacManus, Alex Williamson, Madison Shingles, Emma Paulet, Max Hague, Malyck Duck and Ethan Rogers had a good experience on the day. Overall results had the 5 person team of Jack, Alex, Madison, Emma and Max finishing the day in 7th place. A creditable finish with room to improve. Our other 2 boys joined in with a pair from Lavalla to make up a squad. For Ethan, this was his first shoot for the College and he posted a creditable 10 / 20. Not bad for a first-timer. Max and Malyck both posted 11 / 20, Alex finished on 15 / 20 and Jack was our top shooter on the day with 17 / 20. This put Jack into equal 6th place on the day in the Senior Boys class.

The 2 girls in the group, Madison and Emma had a very positive day with the pair shooting off against each other for 3rd place in the Senior Girls class, with Madison come out as the eventual winner.

Overall, a fun day was had by all.

The next competition is on the 17th of July in Morwell.
