"The Grimm Brother's Spectaculathon"

Congratulations to the Yr 9 Drama class for a spectacular spectaculathon on Monday night. The drama class selected the challenging and humourous play “The Grimm Brother’s Spectaculathon” to plan, rehearse and present to an audience. The play was a tongue in cheek rendering of the Grimm Brother’s traditional fairy tales that saw emancipated princesses and corrupt characters meet the challenges of the modern world.

The students applied themselves to production roles like acting, lighting, sound, costumes and props to combine for the final performance on Monday night. They planned and collaborated, trialled and rehearsed and continued to sustain interest and energy over the duration of the semester.

Sally Tatterson guided the students in the final stages of the production process, deftly tightening the characterisations and direction of the play as she supported all the students to do their best.

The students excelled, from interacting sassily with the audience, playing multiple characters, quick costume changes, Scottish accents, and dragging off the ‘dead’ the group all worked hard and had a lot of fun doing so!

Persistence, resilience, creativity and communication – all fundamental principles at Maffra Secondary College and transferable to all endeavours in the future, were demonstrated and each student involved succeeded in rising to the challenge of performance.

As an audience member I enjoyed it immensely and felt very proud of the whole Year 9 Drama class.
