Curriculum

We had a great start to Term 3 in Foundation with lots of amazing activities integrated through all areas of the curriculum to learn about and celebrate NAIDOC Week. In Foundation we discussed this year's theme 'Voice, Treaty, Truth' and explored what these words mean to us and to Indigenous Australians. In Literacy sessions we read lots of picture books, played Aboriginal games and used this experience as a writing prompt and completed a written response about an episode of 'Little J and Big Cuz'. In other activities we listened to music by Indigenous artists and learnt a dance choreographed by Indigenous Australians. It was a great opportunity for students to learn more about the history of Australia and to acknowledge the culture of Indigenous Australians.

In Reading Groups students read the Dreaming Story of Tiddalick the Frog and completed activities related to this. Students also learned how to login to Reading Eggs independently, we were very impressed with the perseverance students demonstrated when doing this. We will continue to practise this in class and it would be fantastic if you could help your child practise at home when you use Reading Eggs.

In Mathematics we extended our learning of patterns to learn about skip counting patterns. Students practised lots of songs to help them remember the different skip counting patterns. We looked at the different skip counting patterns of 2s, 5s and 10s and highlighted these on a 100s chart and looked for the visual patterns when presented this way.

Have a fantastic week,

Miss Erin Dawson, Miss Katrina Chooi, Mrs Samantha Tang and Miss Jess Tossell

Pupil of the Week

FC: Freddie B

For confidently using the 100's chart to make and explain the skip counting patterns for 10s and 5s. Keep up the great work Freddie!

FD: Piper E

For working hard in writing to create an interesting holiday recount. You used your knowledge of the phonograms to help you spell unknown words and did a great job placing your letters in dotted thirds.

FJ: Luka Y

For demonstrating a love of learning through consistently making great learning choices in your first week back. Keep it up Luka!

FT: Kobi M

For your helpful contributions to the class discussion when making a text connection about how your life is different from the characters in 'Little J and Big Cuz' living in remote communities. Well done!
