Walk to School

Walk to School October

Thank you everyone who participated in Walk to School October. Over the four weeks we registered a total of 8,499 walks and wheels to and from school. That means that every student on average rode or walked to school 7 times and rode or walked home 7 times.

I’m really excited about those figures and I know more students are encouraged to keep the walking and wheeling up since the program finished.

During Walk to School October, there was a colouring competition and more than 120 students entered. It made it very difficult for winners to be chosen as all of the entries were amazing with much thought and effort being put into the designs and colours.

A big congratulations to the following 20 students who were chosen as winners. They received a Walk to School drink bottle at assembly last week and their pictures will be on display in the ‘Library Gallery Corridor’ at the Camberwell Library over the December/January holidays.

Ride2School $3500 Grant!

In assembly last Thursday, Grace from the Ride2School Team (Bicycle Network – Australia’s biggest bike riding organization) came to present us with a $3500 cheque. The cheque is a grant, awarded to BPPS for all that we do to encourage students to ride and walk to school. The $3500 will go towards purchasing a fleet of bikes.

The fleet of bikes will be used in a program to be set up next year. This program will involve teaching students who don’t know how to ride, how to ride a bike! The fleet of bikes will also support the Bike Ed program that is run in Years 3 and 4.

So, keep an eye out next year for news about a Bike Program! And in the meantime, keep walking and wheeling to and from school!!

And to finish my limerick from last week -

Once there was a bike who could talk!

Who asked his owner for some chalk!

The owner asked “why?”

“You can’t write very high!”

He replied, “But I can wheely walk!”

Happy walking and wheeling!
