Basketball

The basketball season is in full swing, with the completion of the fifth round of games last week.  We now only have three weeks left of the CaSSSA competition for the year and so teams will need to play their absolute hardest to achieve the best results possible.  A stand-out is in our Intermediate B team, who hve won all five of their games, making them first place in their division.  We would also like to congratulate all the other teams on their amazing results so far and we hope that this effort continues throughout the next few weeks.

Well  done, girls!

Mount Alvernia College - Queensland Silver Medallist

Basketball Queensland, in conjunction with Queensland School Sport and Queensland Secondary School Basketball, stages the Champion Basketball School of Queensland (CBSQ) tournament in September each year.   The event attracts a great deal of interest from secondary schools across the state each year, with over 120 boys and girls teams competing across several open-age divisions.

The team played exceptionally well and grew in confidence from game to game.  The team has only been together for a short period of time, but it was very apparent that the girls are fast learners.  Participation at the State Championships ensured the girls had an active start to the school holidays.  The Championships had a positive benefit to the girls' physical and mental health and wellbeing; it also assisted in the girls' development of their physical literacy.  Participation at these State Titles helps to connection the girls to sport, which can also encourage a life-long love of sport and physical activity.

It was a pleasure to be a part of this team, and witness the outstanding performances of all the players.  Two girls in particular stood out above the rest, these being Sophie Bennett and Cara Dinneen.
