Cultural Festival

At the end of last term Mount Alvernia held its annual Cultural Festival in celebration of the Feast of the Stigmata of St Francis.  This day consisted of plenty of food, fun, and celebration.  We started off on the oval with a liturgy and smoking ceremony to welcome us all to the festival.  We were told of St Francis’s story and reflected on this feast day.  We then went into the celebration portion of the day, where many food trucks, games, and activities took place.  Finally, we had our concert where all of the houses performed their house dance, with Villa Spada coming out on top.  We also had the choir, performance heat winners, and even the staff perform in this concert.

The day’s theme of Girls Just Wanna Be Fabulous provided much inspiration for our costume parade.  I am proud to say that this day was very successful, and I am very thankful for the involvement of all students and staff who helped in organising this fantastic day.  All of the girls truly are fabulous.

Experiencing Different Cultures

This year Cultural Festival was filled with a wide range of activities.  These activities helped the girls experience different cultures and to make the day entertaining.  The girls had the opportunity to participate in activities such as, Zumba, Aboriginal weaving, and belly dancing.

Cultural Festival is not only an entertaining day but also an incredible experience for our appetite.  The day treated us to a fantastic selection of food, including pizza, rainbow slushies, sushi, Indian, and Ruby’s ice cream truck.  Overall, the festival was an amazing experience and one of the highlights of the year.

House Battle Highlights

This year Rieti won the house battle at the end of the day with their ultra-enthusiastic dance, featuring the homeroom teachers’ very own dance solo that had the crowd in stitches.  Rieti just narrowly beat out Greccio, who re-enacted Tom Holland’s performance of Umbrella by Rihanna on Lip Sync Battle – complete with a tap performance from Miss Uhr, VSCO girl dance number, a hip-hop solo and, of course, yellow glitter-filled umbrellas.  Finally, we wrapped up the day with the section winners of the Cultural Festival competitions and talent show heats, who were all incredibly gifted, incredibly entertaining, and incredibly deserving of their achievements, including Villa Spada, who won the day for most participation.
