Rugby 7s

Scots PGC Warwick 7s

In late Term 3, we sent an U14 and an U16 team to compete in the Annual Warwick 7s Carnival.  Our girls travelled up very early on the Saturday morning and, after expecting to turn up to brown and dry fields, they were amazed to see deep green grass and nice soft dirt for the games.

Our teams were off to a great start, with both our teams winning their first games.  After a short break Round 2 saw the 16s lose while the 14s again held strong for the win.  Our U16 team qualified for the semi-final, but went down by a few points ending their day, but our 14s went from strength to strength, qualifying for the final.

Our 14s, cheered on by the 16s, played an excellent game in the grand final with very tired and sore bodies.  Through teamwork and determination they rallied in the later part of the game to win the U14 Division and take home Mount Alvernia’s First Rugby 7s pennant and trophy.

The 2019 Rugby 7s season is sadly coming to a close.  This year has been filled with a lot of games and fun.  With the All Schools Carnival coming up this weekend, instead of training on Tuesday, all teams played a round-robin competition.  The girls played against Mount Maria, Brigidine. and St Peter's.  It was a tough afternoon for all teams but every team managed to pull out a win.  The girls have had a great season this year Our teams are again at it this weekend in the final tournament of the year.  The All Schools 7s is the highlight of the year and, should you wish to watch our girls play, head on down to South Pine Sporting Complex on Saturday or Sunday to cheer them on.

We can’t wait to see how well they do on the weekend.
