Futsal U13 and U14 Girls – National Schools Futsal Championship
In April this year, three Mount Alvernia girls - Ella Schiavo (Year 7), Matilda Robson (Year 7) and Bianca Caranese (Year 8) - were selected at the North Brisbane School Futsal titles to be part of a Queensland team to participate in the 2019 National Schools Futsal Championships. In the second week of the school holidays (1-4 October) they participated in the U13 girls' category for the Queensland North Coast team. I am very proud and happy to report their team won the grand final and are the 2019 Champion team for the U13 girls' category.
In the nail-biting semi-finals they had to compete against a very slick and experienced Western Australian team who was top of the ladder and undefeated in the tournament. They went in and held this team with 1-1 result at full-time, which then went on to extra time and they still held them with no goals conceded by either side. The end result was to go to penalty kicks, in which Bianca (midfielder/defender) kicked the final goal that won the semi-final. Matilda was our goal keeper and did a brilliant job defending the goal. Ella was a striker and performed beautifully in the tournament. The grand final was then played up against a very competitive New South Wales team. The teamwork between a very talented group of nine girls resulted in a 5-3 score.
Ella also received one of the five individual awards for being an all-star in her age category as well as a selection to play for the Australian U14 team next year in Spain.
In the same carnival in the U14 Division Paris Hanna (Year 8) was also experiencing success. Paris's team also outperformed all the opposition, and Paris and her peers were crowned National Champions also.
Paris, who represented Australia this year in U14, has now also been selected onto the U15 team to play in Brazil 2020.
We wish these girls luck for next Tuesday as they enter their next journey towards Met North Selection.
