Prayer for Year 12

The HSC examinations commence tomorrow, Thursday 17 October, and English Paper 1 is the first exam. We pray for our Year 12 students and for their efforts throughout their exams. We wish them every success and that they may be able to do their best in their exams. We ask God to bless them throughout this time of very significant effort and energy.

Lord, as we face examinations in our lives, send unto me Your Holy Spirit for guidance, enlightenment and inspiration.

Grant me CLARITY OF MIND so that I may be able to recall well and apply correctly all that I have learned and studied for.

Grant me a PEACEFUL and CALM DISPOSITION before and during each task so that I may be able to smartly tackle the exam and use efficiently the time provided, assist me not to be hindered by any self-doubt.

Grant me CONFIDENCE to face each item of the exam without any hesitation and fear.

Grant me HUMILITY to accept whatever will be the result of this exam.

Lord, I know that I have reviewed well and prepared for this exam.  Help me, through Your Divine Providence, to do well in this exam.  I offer this exam to You for Your greater glory.  I will do my best in this endeavour, mindful of the gifts that You have bestowed upon me and the privilege to study and gain an education in service of the truth.

Welcome Back to Term 4

The College has made an excellent start to Term 4 and the students have settled quickly into routine. Year 11 are now commencing their Year 12 studies and all grades 5-10 are now focused on the most important term to leading to assessment and exams for Semester 2.  I wish all students, staff and parents a great term ahead. We have much to achieve.

Chatswood Campus Upgrade During the Holidays – Your Building Fund in Action

The College has further developed B Block during the holidays with all rooms being re-carpeted throughout. As you will recall, we installed new windows and painted the building in earlier school vacation periods this year.

The Administration Office building is the original Brothers House along with B block were the first buildings on the school site. Located downstairs in the Administration building are the School Archives, Principal’s Office, Finance Department, Registrar’s Office and upstairs is the Learning Support Team, the Counselling Team and the Boardroom. The majority of these areas have been painted and re-carpeted.

Upgrade of "C" Block

Commencing immediately after the completion of the HSC on 12 November, the College will fully upgrade these classrooms, stairways and locker areas. This will include airconditioning throughout this building as well as new technology and new furniture, making it a modern 21st Century classroom environment. It will be ready for the start of the 2020 school year.

Chinese Study Tour

On the Parent & Student Matters page of this Woodchatta you will find a full report of the Chinese Language and Culture Immersion Tour to Beijing, Xian and Shanghai during the holidays. I had the pleasure of accompanying our 26 students from Years 9, 10 and 11 along with Mrs Manga and Ms Ho. In every way this was an outstanding and successful tour and I congratulate Mrs Manga on organising a very full and rewarding learning experience for all. Ms Ho was extraordinary in her work with the students and their language.

In particular I wish to thank and congratulate every one of our young men who were true ambassadors for the College. They are intelligent, culturally sensitive, polite and kind and simply great fun to be around.

Please take some time to read the report and view the photos of some of our wonderful learning experiences.

50th Reunion for the Class of 1969

Last Saturday 12 October the St Pius X College graduating class of 1969 gathered for their 50th year reunion.  Commencing on site at the College, our archivist and Old Boy of 1953 Br Carl Sherrin welcomed the men and gave them an update of life at the college today.

Around 30 of the Old Boys celebrated a Mass in the College Chapel led by one of their own, Old Boy Priest Fr Bill Milstead.  His homily reminisced on life in the College in 1969, the teaching staff and the Christian Brothers they remembered fondly.  During the homily the men shared on graduating from the College in the “Summer of Cultural Revolution and Love” and watching the grainy vision of the moon landing  here at school in their final year.

Prayers were shared for those of their year who have passed away and those who are ill or infirm.  The men spoke of how very proud they were to attend St Pius X College and Br Carl assured them of the traditions being upheld at Pius today.

Br Carl took the men on a tour of the College and they then adjourned for a dinner of reminiscing at Roseville Golf Clubhouse where they were joined by more of their cohort.
