Principal's Report

Well, the Term 4 buzz is upon us. There has been a real surge in learning activities since our last newsletter.

Parent Information Night - Reading

Last night it was fabulous to see so many parents at our ‘Parent Information Night on the Teaching of Reading’. Our Literacy Team did a great job running through how reading is taught at Syndal South Primary School from Foundation to Year 6. The session also covered how parents can best support their child at home with their reading. Thank you to the parents who attended and for the questions that were asked which made it an interactive discussion-based evening.

Foundation Transition

Yesterday, we had our final ‘Launch into Learning’ transition days, with our new 2020 Foundation students. It was a musical experience for our littlies, with Leo Kahans our marvellous music teacher.

Orientation Day for our new Foundation students will be on Tuesday 10th December from 9.30 am to 1.00 pm. On this day they will meet their teacher and their ‘buddies’ for 2020 and have a morning experience similar to a typical day at school.

Internal transition opportunities began today, these allow for students to move to the next year level to experience their new environment in a relaxed informal manner. A more formal session is planned for Tuesday 10th December, when students will move to their next year level space from 9am to 1.30pm. In addition to this, the teachers are again currently working on creating a ‘Fact Sheet’ for parents/carers who have students moving from Foundation to Year 1, Year 2 to 3 and from Year 4 to Year 5. The fact sheets will set out the major organisational changes that will take place in preparation for the 2020 school year.

Swimming

Next week, Foundation and Year 1/2 students commence their swimming program at Huntingtower. It’s an activity that is so important not only for building their confidence and skill levels in swimming but also their independence level in managing their belongings and being able to dress and undress themselves, I am looking forward to going to watch some sessions over the next couple of weeks.

Thank you!

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to again sincerely thank our wonderful school community for all their support for the recent Syndal South Family Fete. Personally, the main purpose of such an event is the opportunity for community engagement and from the feedback we have received from both parents and children this was definitely achieved. Considering the weather, the final amount raised of $7,513, was a great outcome.
