PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Dear Parents and members of the MESC Community

Every four years all government schools undergo a review of their performance with external reviewers. We are currently engaged with that process, and leading up to this point we have been conducting a pre-review self-evaluation. This has involved all members of staff considering the goals we set for our college four years ago, and determining how well we have done in relation to those goals. Students have also been significantly involved in this process, and I have met with students across all year levels to seek their input about almost every aspect of college life, and the extent to which it assists their learning, wellbeing and future aspirations. Whilst we have an obligation to set the school’s direction, we also know that our purpose for being here is the young people with whom we work. Listening and responding to their feedback, thoughts, ideas and concerns is a critical part of our work and this change is one of the significant factors that have contributed to our ever improving success, and the wonderfully calm and productive environment at the college.

The parent representative group on School Council have also been involved in this reflective work over a number of meetings.

The next stage for the review process is a series of formal days whereby our reflections on our work are validated by the reviewer, as well as two Challenge Partners. These partners are principals who have been asked to consider the work of this college from an independent perspective, and in conjunction with our own leadership team, we look forward to developing a clear plan for the next four years.

The full implementation of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program will be a significant element of this work, and through the process of self-evaluation, plans for the next phase of our work in moving the college forward are already under consideration.

Parents who are interested in providing feedback will have an opportunity to do so in the period between August 24 and September 10. If you would like to participate, please contact me via email or phone.

We have much to celebrate as a college but remain committed to learning and developing in order to best meet the needs of our amazing students!
