LIVING AND MODELING OUR SCHOOL VALUE OF RESPECT

Out school Motto is ‘Welcoming – Engaging – Achieving” and our overarching value is “Respect”. Throughout school life we talk about respecting oneself, respecting others and respecting our community – doing our best, being proud of ourselves and our actions as well as supporting others to be their best, when at all possible.  Living these values underpins our days and on the vast majority of occasions we are exceptionally proud of our students.

Caring for our school and school property also falls under this umbrella. We have a wonderful school and the majority of students are respectful of what we have. Saying this, we have spent considerable money recently repairing and replacing equipment and facilities deliberately damaged:-

  • Unblocking our sewerage system after student/s unscrewed a sewer cap and placed rocks, tree stakes and branches several metres down the shaft
  • Re-concreting pavers after all the mortar was removed.
  • Repairing locks after sand, sticks and bluetac were placed in them.
  • Repairing toilet cisterns, taps, soap and paper dispensers after they were broken as well as removing wet paper thrown on our toilet ceilings
  • Replacing more  trees and plants than is usually necessary after leaves have been stripped and branches broken

We have spoken at assemblies, in classrooms and when possible to individual students and we hope that you at home can reiterate our message of taking care of our school environment in the same was we take care of our belongings in our homes. It is so important that we take time to appreciate what we have and do our best individually and collectively to show respect.

HALF YEAR STUDENT REPORTS & PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS

All our teachers have commenced working diligently, finalising the assessments of students in order to produce both comprehensive and easy to understand individual student reports for parents. Reports will be available on your Compass portals at the end of term.

Ongoing formal and informal assessment of students is an integral part of our teaching and learning. All areas of the school have a very strong team focus with children often working with their homeroom teacher and also working with other teachers and Education Support Officers, particularly in the more focussed literacy and numeracy teaching times. Your child as a learner is known by a team of people. CPS staff are passionate about teaching, growing and learning together to be the best they can be to individually and collectively support the needs of our students.

Class teachers know your child the best and are the ones who are currently writing their half year report. Class teachers will meet families for student led conferences later in term 3. At home, if you’re talking about school, make the time to chat about your child’s learning and who they learnt with today.

NAPLAN – NATIONAL TESTS

Our years 3 and 5 children completed their national tests in reading, writing, maths and language conventions last week. We wish to congratulate them for taking this important work in their stride. They have worked very hard practising over the last few weeks and did their best each day. The classroom teachers are very proud of their efforts. Their tests have been sent in to be centrally assessed and results will be forwarded to the school to distribute to parents some time later in the year. Whilst this is considered an important assessment tool, we must remember it is just one snapshot of your child’s achievements on a given day. Classroom teachers are undertaking a range of ongoing assessments to provide comprehensive evaluations of each student’s learning in order to inform their future teaching and to provide semester reports to parents.
