YEARS 7-12

Students in all year levels began their online Career Action Plan in Term 1 and should now take the time to complete their plan for 2021—students can access this in My Career Portfolio.  Students in years 9-11 must complete this prior to subject selection.

REMINDER—participating in extra-curricular activities is an excellent way to explore current interests and develop new ones, make friends, unlock passions, and to build enjoyment into your life.  Not only that, but they make your resume look amazing.  So get involved; play sports, learn an instrument or a language, volunteer, draw, dance, design, enter a competition, get involved in the school production.  And keep a record of your activities so you can easily recall them in years to come.

YEAR 9

Year 9 students will begin their My Career Insights journey when they complete the Morrisby Profile career assessment on eLearning day on 9th June.  This personal career discovery tool helps students learn about the skills and abilities they could bring to a job and find out about jobs that match their abilities, interests and personality, and the subjects they need for those jobs.  Students will receive a Morrisby Profile Report showing the results from the questions and quizzes, and identifying potential suitable careers.  A one-on-one career counselling session will be provided to students by an accredited Morrisby career practitioner and parents are welcome to attend.  These half-hour sessions will be held in the week of 26th to 30th July.  The service is provided free of charge to all Year 9 students, and complements the career education program offered at Auburn High School.  Parents will need to provide consent online through Compass events for their student to participate.

YEAR 10

During Careers Week 2021, Year 10 students had an opportunity to hone their interview skills during the Simulated Job Interviews held on 20th May with the kind support of twenty members of Rotary Hawthorn.  Designed to extend student thinking beyond a first job, students had the opportunity to apply for junior positions in web design, graphic design, IT, sports coaching, education support, customer service, administration and retail as well as apprenticeships in cabinet making, baking and mechanics.  There was a tremendous buzz (and some nerves) among the students as they awaited their turn.  Our interviewers were highly impressed with the exceptional calibre of candidates and their overwhelming positivity and enthusiasm.  Thanks to E4L teachers for their work in preparing students and to Rotary Hawthorn for their ongoing support of this program.
