International Students versus Staff basketball

Thursday lunchtime, May 24th saw the latest instalment in the longstanding basketball rivalry between our International Students (and friends) and their teachers here at Northcote. Once again, spectators witnessed a hard-fought contest; the game was tough and fast but played in the spirit we’ve come to expect from our students and staff. Just when it seemed that victory was assured for the teachers, the student team staged a remarkable comeback with scores level at half-time. 

The tension was palpable as fans and players readied themselves for what looked to be a tight final 10 minutes.  However, even with numerous attacks at goal, the students fell just short of equalling the achievements of our now immortal 2017 student team, by not managing to snatch an unlikely victory, in spite of the teachers’ obvious weariness.  Even though the game was over for another year, the excitement and enjoyment lingered long after as students and staff pored over some fantastic action shots of the game. Thanks must go to the PE faculty for their support of the event, and of course, the staff and students who made up the teams, and the spectators, who made it a ‘standing only’ event in the gym.
