Chess Team

Chess Tournament at Brunswick Secondary College

The Northcote High School Chess team travelled to Brunswick Secondary College for the Chess Tournament run by Chess Victoria.  The Northcote Team was runner up in the tournament to Suzanne Cory High School.

The tournament consisted of 7 rounds. In the open division, Ben Murphy won 6 out of 7 games, received a High Distinction, and won the medal for best player. Lewis Tan and Hugo Waples, in the middle years division, won 5 games each, received a credit, and also won the medal for this division.

Angus Boyd and Jeffrey Ng won 4.5 and 4 games respectively and received a credit rating.

Phoebe Lawlor won 2 games, Thomas Smith and Bridie McLaughlin won 1.5 games each and they are starting to understand more of the strategies of planning a Checkmate.

Overall a great effort by the team and they are looking forward to the next tournament.
