Principal's Message

Dear Students, Parents, Carers and Families,

Online Teaching and Learning Update

Week 1 of remote online learning is nearly complete and everyone has been doing an amazing job! It is really clear to see that despite all of the different challenges we face at home, students and families have quickly found a great rhythm with learning, working and teaching from home.

It has been very pleasing to see that there has been significantly high engagement levels in all year groups both being online and submitting work.

The feedback from our families around the changes we have made in this cycle of remote and online learning, especially the shorter day and the paper-based learning packs for our Foundation to Year 2 students this year has had a positive impact on wellbeing and learning.

Our remote online learning environment may never be perfect but we are always exploring ways to continue to improve what we do as a school in the best interests of our community. The feedback we get from students and families is an important part of this too so thank you!

Well done and thank you to our amazing staff who have gone, as always, above and beyond to nurture and care for our students and community!

We all thank you for your continued support and keep up the great work!

MILO’S BIRTHDAY SURPRISE PARTY

Last week, our Foundation students’ celebrated reaching the end of stage four of Little Learner’s Love Literacy, which is our structured synthetic phonics approach to developing confident readers and writers. This means that they have now covered every letter of the alphabet learning how to write the letter, say the letter and the sound the letter makes. As students progress through the stages they are introduced to a new character, which is connected to each letter of the alphabet helping them to remember the letter name and sound.

At the conclusion of stage four, students celebrated by throwing a Milo Monkey (the central character in Little Learners) Birthday Surprise. They each chose a letter from the alphabet and came dressed as something that started with that letter. What a fun day we all had and it was so great to see all of our Foundation students in their costumes and celebrating their achievement together.

Well done and congratulations, Foundation on your amazing success!

EDUCATION WEEK

Last week, it was great to see so many of our parents and carers at school joining their children for a fun lesson at school. Year groups planned a variety of activities from quizzes, planting seeds and STEAM challenges. It was a great opportunity for our school to strengthen relationships and connections but also have a bit of fun together too. Thank you to our parents and carers who were able to attend making these moments special for all of us!

Unfortunately, due to the lockdown we weren’t able to have a grandparents join their grandchild for some art. Hopefully, we will be able to invite all of them again later in the year!

ONLINE PARENT INFORMATION AND READINESS EVENING

Due to the lockdown our Parent Information and Readiness evening will be run online next week, on Wednesday evening 7th June from 7.00pm to 8.30pm via Webex.

If you know any families who might be interested please let them know and contact the school to ensure we can provide them with the Webex link for the session.

The Information and Readiness Evening is designed to provide families with valuable information around three very important questions we have as parents about our child's readiness for school:

  • Is my child ready for school?
  • What can I do to help prepare my child so they are ready for school?
  • How does Maramba provide a safe and engaging environment for my child?

Please see the attached flyer for further details.

Kind regards,

Darren Wallace
