From the Principal

Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends

Funding Announcement

I am thrilled to inform you, as announced in last week’s State Budget, that the State Government are funding building works for $15.13 million that will modernise and upgrade our classrooms and learning spaces on the Junior Campus.  Our local member, Paul Edbrooke MP, has been a great support and I would like to acknowledge him for his efforts in making this possible.  This is such an exciting time for Frankston High School and we cannot wait to begin work with our entire school community to collaboratively design our new learning spaces.

Assemblies

We held Year Level Assemblies on the 7-10 Campus on Monday 24 May related to the theme of Sustainability.  In particular, the focus from our Eco Team was on reducing waste and single-use plastic.  Our ambitious target is to reduce all single-use plastic at the school over the next twelve months and we are asking for our community’s support in that any single-use plastic that comes to school goes home in lunchboxes with students.  We were also fortunate to have Josie Jones, Victoria’s Local Hero for 2020, attend and speak to us about litter and the environment.  Thank you to Mr Brendan McKinnon and our Eco Team for organising these.

Year 7 Camps

Thank you to all staff that attended our two Year 7 camps last week that were rescheduled due to the COVID-19 circuit breaker lockdown.

Thank you to Mr Darin Joyce, Ms Emily Sykes, Ms Kylie Williams, Mr Joel McMahon and Ms Sharee Dew for their efforts organising these.  The feedback from students and parents has been extremely positive and grateful they had the opportunity to attend a camp.

NPD Cross Country Champions

Our students had a great day at NPD Cross Country on Friday 21 May becoming the overall Champions.  We now have a large number who have qualified for Region later this term.  On top of their performance, their behaviour was exceptional!  They were very supportive of one another but also students from the other local schools which was great to see.  Thank you to Mrs Chloe Stevens, Mrs Kylie Grech, Mr Mal Burt, Mrs Mary Hunter, Mrs Lorraine Buttery and Ms Holly Lee for their support of our students.

IDAHOBIT Day

We celebrated IDAHOBIT Day on Monday 17 May with a crazy sock day, organised by our wonderful SLC.  Thank you to Mrs Sarah Bahramis, Mr Isaac Bakker, Ms Alarna Summers and Ms Lilly Wells for supporting our students.

Subject and Tertiary Expo

We held our Subject and Tertiary Expo on Tuesday 25 May on the Senior Campus. This was a great opportunity for students to hear from tertiary organisations, and also for parents/guardians to speak with our teachers. Thank you to Ms Sharon Bourne for organising this event for our students and their families. Thank you also to our Heads of Department, the Senior School Team and all other staff that supported the afternoon and evening.

NAPLAN

Well done to our Year 7 and Year 9 students who recently completed their NAPLAN tests in language conventions, writing, reading and numeracy. We are very proud of their efforts and application to these. Thank you to Mr Jacob Givogue for overseeing this process and all of the staff involved in ensuring it ran smoothly.
