From the Principal

Term 2, Week 6, Kevin Kennedy

Dear Families,

Reconciliation Week

It was great to see so many families attend our Reconciliation Week assembly this morning. I know the staff and especially the students love having family members attend, it makes for a real community event.

The assembly brings a close to our Reconciliation Week activities. During the past week students have participated in; a Welcome to Country hosted by Kaurna elder Elaine Magias, Aboriginal themed classroom electives, a whole school Aboriginal flag collage featuring guest speaker Gavin Wanganeen and host of other activities and learning within the classrooms. It has been a thoroughly enjoyable week which has certainly increased the students understanding of Aboriginal culture and what reconciliation means.

Airport Bunnings Barbeque

Last Saturday our fundraising committee and several dedicated volunteers committed their day to cooking snags and selling drinks to raise funds for our school. It was a nice day, with a steady stream of customers and a total of $1200 was raised. A great effort and a useful amount of money. I’d like to thank all of those who helped out, especially Sal McDonald. She was able to secure donations, get people organised and made sure the event was a success.

Pupil Free Day

We have our Pupil Free Day on Friday 11th June. On the day staff will be examining the science behind reading in an attempt to better understand how children learn to read.  We will also be examining some new planning and curriculum documents released by the Department for Education. The following Monday is a public holiday.

If you have any queries or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me at the school, we can talk over the phone or in person.

Kind regards,

Kevin Kennedy
