P to the E with Leigh

The Foundation students have finished the swimming program and did a great job learning how to swim, riding on the bus and changing clothes for the six days. The Foundation students are getting back into class routines and learning how to play and work together.

The 1/2s have also finished swimming and learnt a lot in the intensive swimming program. The students have been working on all round hand eye coordination. We have been using hula hoops, tennis balls and basketballs to practice catching and bouncing with hand eye coordination. The 1/2s will continue to consolidate their learning through small games focused on group cooperation and skill development.

The 3/4s have been practicing their running and fitness skills as they prepare for trails in athletics for next term. The children have completed 100m sprints and have been working with Keith Howden on technique and fitness. The relay teams will be picked with participation, practice and successful time trials. Eight children from the 9/10 year old age group competed in the district competition with three children successfully progressing to the next round of the competition.

The 5/6 students have been working on preparation for inter-school sport and the gala day of winter sports, soccer, football and netball. All children will be travelling by bus for a one day carnival competing against schools across the district. This is the first time this will be trialled. The students have also completed trials in 100m runs, high jump and we are beginning to look at making the teams for third term athletics.

It has been exciting for the students to be back and involved in inter school competitions.
