In the Art / Craft Room

Art

Students have enjoyed learning about artist and ceramicist, Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran. We explored Ramesh’s imaginary figurative sculptures using clay.

Students in Foundation to Year Two used the pinch pot technique to create their sculptural works and were encouraged to use their imaginations to add unusual eyes, arms, hair and other features. The three to six classes used a combination of pinch, slab, coil and carving out, for their clay works. All students were expected to  draft their ideas in their sketch before working on their clay sculptures.

Our next challenge is to create imaginary figures using recycled and natural materials. Students then add air dried clay to create more definition and detail.  I have provided a link to a video of Ramesh which I have shown the children in art, that you may also find interesting.

Parents and carers are most welcome to assist in the art room to support student learning. You will need a current Working with Children Check. Please sign in at the office before you come to the art room.

Looking forward to working with all you again soon.

Craft

Students have completed their main lesson focused clay works and they look fantastic! I am in the process of firing all these works and then students will paint them.

We are now working on our textile projects and working towards completing these as well.

The Foundation children are stitching hessian bags and class one and two are working on their recorder bags.

Class Three are finishing their sunray cushions from last year. Class Four to Six will begin their knitting projects shortly.
