A message from Leon

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you are all going well during these challenging few weeks.  I know that continuously unfolding events can be unsettling.  We are right here with you and we will continue this journey no matter what unfolds.

I would like to thank you all for your support, understanding and feedback as we needed to rearrange events and activities at very short notice.   Once we are back to onsite learning, we will try to reschedule events (subject to Department of Education advice) and communicate this to you as soon as we can.

If you or your child is unwell,  please stay at home and follow the Government or medical guidelines.  This also applied to anyone who has attended a COVID exposure site, which is updated daily.

Reconciliation Week

It was such a privilege to see students, staff and community come together for our Sorry Day assembly on May 26th.   This is an important acknowledgement that past decisions of governments toward First Nations people caused great pain and hurt. We  want to learn from them and teach future generations to make a positive difference for and with First Nations people.

Our work around Reconciliation continues with Foundation- Year Two students commencing learning entitled “Heal Country”.  Students in Years Three-Six will commence this unit of work at the start of Term Three learning into our NAIDOC Day.  These units acknowledge the importance that reconciliation is more than a work but ongoing actions.

School Reports

School Reports will continue to be published and released on Friday June 18th via Compass.  Staff have been working hard on assessing children and providing details as to how your child is progressing this semester.

If you have any questions for your teachers regarding the reports, please contact them via Compass and they will get back to you as soon as possible.

School community events

Every school in Victoria is seeking advice from the Department of Education regarding events involving the school community.   We may have to adjust and/or re-book dates for some events.  We will let you all know as soon as possible any new arrangements for school community events via compass.

Kitchen Garden Learning Space update

School Council are working towards the development of the Kitchen Garden space. Currently School Council are working with the Department of Education around guidelines and procedures as the storage shed will be re-defined as a learning space.  We have currently raised $24,000 for this school project and continue consultation with local builders.

2022 New Enrolments

If you know of anyone who is interested in enrolling a new child at Thornbury Primary,  please have them contact the school as soon as possible.  We are experiencing a large number of families on tours and wanted to enrol and places are limited.  Onsite tours have been postponed during lockdown but hopefully will recommence soon.

Take care everyone,

Leon Bell
