Library News

With holidays coming up it is a great time for the school community to utilise our eBook platform, https://henrykendah.eplatform.co/. There are many great features to help make reading accessible for our students. Personalised settings allow for readers to set coloured backgrounds, change font size and type, change the text from English to a range of different languages and much more. This means every book can become a Dyslexia friendly book.

The eBook platform is accessible 24/7 and is available through the Wheelers app, via the website or the My School Library Catalogue.

Congratulations to the five students who have already completed the Premier’s Reading Challenge this year. The challenge closes Friday 18 August this year. Students are encouraged to continue reading and logging the books read on their digital reading log on the Premier’s Reading Challenge website.

Congratulations also go out to Alissa Rutter for her winning entry for the Star Wars movie trailer competition earlier this term. Alissa’s fantastic entry was rewarded with a Star Wars prize pack including a Star Wars original trilogy graphic novel, Darth Vader tumbler, Star Wars postcard pack and space related candy.

To celebrate Pride Month the library is hosting a Pride Trivia event in week 10 this term for students and staff. Teams of up to six participants can register for the event and there will be prizes for the winning team on the day. Further, students are able to enter our Pride Month bookmark design competition by submitting a two-sided design that celebrates diversity, empowerment and inclusion. A prize will be awarded to the judges’ choice and peoples’ choice design. To reflect the diversity of our school community students and staff are also able to add a rainbow patterned crane to the library origami crane installation.

A variety of interesting books featuring LGBTQ+ characters are available to borrow including the ever-popular Heartstopper graphic novel series, the novels This is Our Place, Felix Ever After and If Tomorrow Doesn’t Come. LGBTQ+ novels can be found by searching the My Library Catalogue or by browsing and locating books with a rainbow spine label.

In Week 10, Miss Klein in collaboration with Mrs Cortaville-Smith will be hosting a one-day vlogging course. Creating a vlog is a great way in contemporary job markets to make yourself stand out from the crowd. The course is open to students who wish to learn the skills to vlog effectively and understand how vlogs can be used as a modern-day resume. Students need to register with Mrs Cortaville-Smith to attend.
