WOW! The end of Term 2 already.
Year 7 have settled in nicely and have extended their knowledge of positive and negative numbers and have been applying this to the number plane. They then moved onto working with fractions and decimals. Also in Stage 4, Year 8 have been working with equations and have been introduced to graphing linear equations.
In Stage 5, Year 9 have been leaning about indices as well as analysing data and moving deeper into solving equations. Year 10 have also studied Data Analysis and used their problem solving skills with different aspects of measurement.
It was great to speak with so many students and parents on our Year 11 Subject Selection Evening. We look forward to guiding students through a path that best suits their individual needs.
In Stage 6 our students have worked through their various courses ready for their end of term assessment tasks. Most tasks this term focus on recalling information under exam conditions and require thorough preparation at home. Year 11 Final Exams and Year 12 Trial HSC Exams are not far away, students should be revising their notes, creating topic summaries, and completing practice questions. For students who require assistance with this, please see your teacher.
Our famous “Golden Calculator” has continued to be a hit. This is awarded at each Celebration Assembly (twice per term) to recognise a student who consistently strives for success in Maths. Students receive the privilege of using the golden calculator in class as well as a $10 voucher for our school canteen.
Congratulations to both Xuan Zhang (Year 9) and Sanika Nou (Year 11) who were our winners this term.
Maths and Milo has been exceptionally popular across all year groups this term. This is a place where all are welcome before school on Tuesdays. Students drop-in to room GL9 any time from 8.00am and can receive assistance with their Maths from a teacher, work through maths problems with their friends, complete their Maths homework, and of course, get a free hot or cold Milo.
Our junior students are utilising MathsOnline as a platform for weekly homework. This allows students access to much needed repetition of classroom concepts in a format that provides instant feedback to the students. The program also allows students to watch a video recording of concepts in their own time to clarify their understanding. All Year 7 students have weekly homework due each Thursday and Year 8 each Friday. Years 9 and 10 classes have individual arrangements with their teachers.
I wish everyone a safe and enjoyable winter holiday break and look forward to a positive Term 3.
