From the Principal
I am sure that our students are enjoying their Semester subjects as we move past the mid-point of Term 2.
Our Music Team is once again taking some of our ensemble groups out on a camp this week, this time it is an opportunity to rehearse together for a concentrated amount of time in preparation for our upcoming Mid-year celebrations. I hope that they relish the opportunity to play together and are ready for our families to see the progress that they are making.
Angela Cappelli and I thoroughly enjoyed our time in Rome but I dare say not as much as the students that have been there for the past month. We now have 10 students from Rome participating in our Year 10 and 11 classes. They have already written back to the teachers in Rome telling them about the great amount of space that our school has in comparison to their school. It is a great opportunity to learn about different education systems and the students from Francesco Vivona are enjoying our elective program and in particular our practical subjects, as their school only runs a set classical curriculum.
This week our staff and students are completing our second round of Learning Behaviour Reports for the Semester. They are a great opportunity for families to reflect on progress made and will assist our students in completing end of unit assessment tasks, especially for our Year 11s who will beginning their Exam period next week.
We also have our Course Selection Expo running tomorrow afternoon and evening. Please note that this is an early finish for classes (school day finishes at the end of Period 3) so that students and families in Years 8 - 11, can find out more about the subjects that are offered for their courses in 2024. More information and a map of the Expo can be found later in this edition.
We also have another pupil free date to share with our families to assist with your planning this Term, which is Thursday 15 June, for Assessment and Reporting. This is one of the 5 Curriculum Days that the school has scheduled throughout the year. The focus of the day is for staff to finalise the assessment of student work and complete their reporting processes for the Semester. It will also allow for our Senior students to complete their GAT (General Achievement Test) onsite with little interruption, so it will not be a school free day for everyone!
Thanks to our families that attended the Movie Night last fortnight, it was great to see our Friends of Northcote enjoying time together in the community and I hope they enjoyed the movie as well. I am very much looking forward to upcoming Talkfest event later this term.
I look forward to seeing you at the Course Expo tomorrow, or the Talkfest later this term.
