“BLISS” – EDSC Instagram Art Competition

To keep our Art students creatively occupied in the mid-semester break and first few weeks of Term 2 the Art Captains and the Arts Domain ran an EDSC Instagram Art Competition  which has been very successful indeed. To enter, students needed to create & submit an original artwork based upon the theme of “Bliss”. The prize of a $30 gift card would be awarded to the entry that most captured the theme of “Bliss” (as chosen by the Art captains and myself).

We had a large number of entries of a very high standard, and it was so great to have the students getting behind the competition so enthusiastically. A big thanks to each and every one of the students who entered! Really amazing work, which can be seen in the below collage!

BUT of course, there can only be one winner, and unanimously the  Art Captains and myself selected the artwork by Ashleigh T of Year 8 as the winner of the competition (also seen below). We all agreed that Ashleigh’s artwork seemed to take the most authentic and personal artistic approach amongst the entries to summarise what Bliss means to her.

In Ashleigh’s own words:

This is a very simple painting with a happy smiling face.  Different colours of background reveal blissfulness. Every different colour meaning happiness, joyfulness, and cheery moments in our life! Simple = BlissColourful = BlissWhatever I paint = Bliss

Wonderful words and very big congratulations to Ashleigh!

All entries are on display in the EDSC library for the next few for everyone’s viewing pleasure!

Art and Anime Club

Students who attend the Art and Anime club on Wednesday afternoons from 3.30pm to 4.30pm each week have been making connections with like-minded people and enjoying this time and space to explore their creativity!

It has been a pleasure to witness students of all ages being supportive of each other and trying new things when it comes to drawing styles and media.

For our senior students, a space to continue working on their VCE folios in a more relaxed atmosphere with friends has been welcomed.

Our Visual Arts staff at EDSC have been taking turns in supervising our students and enjoying getting to know them each week. (Mr Easton, Ms Ruderman, Mr Krott, Ms Parker, Mrs Wheeler)

Here are a few photos from a recent session of student drawings for you to enjoy!
