Year 7 Billy Cart Program - Student Report

The first Billy Cart program session was held on Wednesday 10 May. In this lesson a group of Year 7 girls began to assemble a billy cart— an old-fashioned cart— in small groups.

The main purpose of this experience is to help young innovators try new things, explore the different aspects of STEM and take on opportunities that will eventually lead up to a Billy Cart race.

The first session was more of an introduction than making, explaining how the program will go and what we will need to achieve a successful billy cart, with our own design and modifications to make our billy cart unique to us.

This session was also where we took the time to assemble the billy cart and get introduced to the other people in the program and our groups. Most groups managed to accomplish a base for the cart and only needed to assemble the seat, which then will be the main purpose of next week— finishing the cart, before we get into the design aspect of this program.
