CURRICULUM FOCUS

In Reading this week we are continuing to learn about identifying the features of a procedural text.


VOCABULARY

Procedural Text: Instructs someone how to do or make something. For example: Recipes, Making a Shelf, etc.

 

Features: The individual parts that make up a text. For example: Title, Materials, Steps.

 

Title: Name of a book, recipe or instructions.

 

Materials/Ingredients: The things you need to make a recipe or to build something. For example: eggs and milk, or nails and a hammer.

 

Instructions/Steps: The order to complete a recipe or to build something. For example: Step 1: Crack the eggs.


ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Look for Procedural Texts in your home such as; 

  • Recipe Books
  • Instructions (building a toy, building a shelf, etc)
  • How to manuals 

With your child look for the features in a book of your choice, can you find them all?

  • Title
  • Materials/Objects
  • Instructions/Steps
