Year 6 Literature Circles
Literature Circles
The Year 6s have been working really hard in Literature Circles. This week, we held our first group discussions; everyone was well prepared and happily discussed their text in great detail!
Here are a few examples of fantastic work from each group:
A Walk In The Dark
Michael
Role: Connector
Connection 1. Text to self | Page 12: When the dad says a bit of rain will never hurt you but Chrystal still has a bad feeling there is going to be a storm. It reminds me of one time at night, it was not even raining and I had a strong feeling that it was going to pour down when I was in bed. At midnight all of a sudden rain decided to come and it poured down outside then there was lightning and it was a bad storm. |
Connection 2. Text to anything | On page 32: It says her new runners had made a blister on the back of her heel. I can relate to this because I know that we all get blisters every time we use our new runners - and that’s a fact! |
Connection 3. Text to anything | On page 33: It says that the bus could’ve taken me home but now it's gone. That reminds me of when we just landed at Melbourne airport and after that, we were trying to find a taxi to take me and my family home. I can relate to how that felt in the book. |
A prediction based on my connections | I think there’s going to be a storm while they're in the forest going for an adventure. Maybe they go there looking at nature and the animals in the forest but they forget that today will be a storm and it turns dark like night time and they won’t be able to see a thing so they have to use a torch but then they get stuck in the forest. |

The Cradle of All Worlds
Elisa
Role: Summariser
The summariser reads the section of text and think of five key ideas that they wish to share with the group. They write a topic sentence (TS) for each idea and then write two supporting details (SD) for each idea or topic sentence.
TS At the beginning of the book the story is set in a home.
SD Jane is the main character.
SD She lives in the house with her dad, Mr and Mrs Hollow with their daughter, Violet.
TS Jane’s dad is sick.
SD Jane has to look after him.
SD She has to do all of the chores and always stay with her dad.
TS There was a festival in town.
SD Mr and Mrs Hollow said not to mess the festival up.
SD Jane left her dad and ran out the door secretly.
TS Jane saw Eric Junior (Atlas’ Son) who started blocking her way.
SD He asked where her father was and started humiliating her in front of everyone.
SD Jane said that she was never going to show him where her father was so Eric junior cried “GET HER!!”.SD Jane ran for her life.
TS Jane got trapped and fell into the water.
SD She woke up in a cage wet and dirty, the bad guys had trapped her.
SD Violet, the little girl came to stay and tried to help her.
