Wellbeing update
Welcome to winter school holidays! Wellbeing have had a busy term working with staff, students and facilitating a range of different group programs. We continue to offer one on one appointments for students and work together with our community to ensure Koonung continues to be a safe, supportive and healthy community.
Winter Self Care Ideas:
As winter has well and truly begun, for many of us, we are noticing the colder weather and shorter days. We may also notice a change in our motivation levels, moods and general wellbeing. Below is a list of self-care ideas to look after yourself and your family this winter
EACH – Authentic You
This term a small group of Year 8 and Year 9 students are participating in the Authentic You group program. This was a seven-week program that took place once a week. It was designed for our students to explore topics such as self-esteem, body confidence, managing (tricky) emotions, how to support others and communication skills. It’s been wonderful to hear positive feedback from students about having opportunities to self-reflect and learning proactive strategies they can use and share with their friends.
Each was so enjoyable to go to, I loved being a part of it. They made us feel so comfortable during each session. It was helpful to go learn about coping strategies and how to deal with emotions. Not one session was boring; they always had us doing all sorts of fun activities – Imogen Pilgram
Raise Program
The Year 8 Raise Youth mentoring program have successfully completed their first term. Students have now been matched with their Mentors and meet once a week to discuss various issues that affect them at school. This is a wonderful program that allows trusted adults help our young people navigate life’s challenges. A caring, independent volunteer mentor shows up each week, just for them. With time to listen, one-to-one support with a mentor gives young people a voice, empowering them to cope better. It has been great to see students turning up each week, building rapport with the mentors.
CLUBS:
Breakfast Club:
We are very excited to announce the re-launch of the Breakfast Club in Term 3. The Breakfast Club is an opportunity to connect with friends, play games and eat a free breakfast before a busy school day ahead! Cereal, toast and fruit are available each week. Further details will be posted first week of next term – we look forward to seeing you there!
Monday Funday - Mondays at lunch time in A Block
Monday Funday is a lunch time club just for Year 7 students – come along and play some board games and puzzles and have the opportunity to socialise with other students outside of your class.
Wellbeing Wednesdays: Lunchtime A2
Wellbeing Wednesday is open to all students and aims to promote student wellbeing in a variety of ways. Run with the assistance of the Wellbeing Captains, activities are different each week and might include craft, mindfulness, movement, trivia, games, chill out space as well as guest speakers.
