10 Ceramics – Coil Products

Students in our 10 Ceramics class have been working hard during Semester 1 researching, designing, and producing a product made using coils.

 

Students used the Coil Building method to construct their design from a flat or spiral base, ensuring that each layer was well attached and smooth.

 

Students also explored the use of two new surface techniques:

Inlay – whereby colour tinted clay is used to fill a carved line or area and

Sgraffito – where underglaze is painted onto leather hard clay and a design is scratched or carved in to reveal the colour of the clay through the underglaze.

 

Their first product is now bisque fired and some students may choose to apply a clear gloss to their work for a second firing to add shine.
