SAKG FEEDBACK FROM 3/4H STUDENTS

Written by Victoria 3H

Murrumbeena Primary School is very lucky to have SAKG (Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden). Most schools don’t have SAKGs.  SAKG is helping in the garden, learning how to grow and harvest and trying different foods by cooking and dining.

Growing

Growing is always exciting because in each session you plant something different.  Sometimes fresh, nutritious fruits and vegies, and some fruits and vegies you might not even know.

Harvesting

Harvesting is the best thing you can do during garden. It always looks interesting and every time you harvest, you learn a new plant’s name and when you go into kitchen and eat it, it’s always scrumptious and delicious and tastes magnificent.

Dining

In dining, we get into groups and go to stations, we each cook something different. Each time, when we are finished cooking, we go and eat all the different foods. We also have different countries’ flags and we learn how to say ‘happy eating’ in that language. Every time, the food is inspiring and spectacular.

MPS has a great educational SAKG, the best one yet!  If you are interested, you could volunteer to help out in kitchen or garden, or maybe even both!

Obviously Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden has the best educational food ever!  In addition to mouth-watering food and colourful plants, everyone knows that Murrumbeena P.S. has the luckiest kitchen garden in the whole of Melbourne. Murrumbeena P.S. is very lucky to have this inspiring environment.

Kitchen

How do you not know about Murrumbeena’s nutritious kitchen? It is both tasty and healthy at the same time.  We know all about cooking and safety however, we still have a lot to learn. The kitchen is located in what we call the ‘Learning Centre’ because we always learn there.

Garden

Our garden is spectacularly neat and tidy.  All of the fresh fruit and vegetables that the students harvest go straight into the kitchen.  The adventurous garden is also located in the Learning Centre as well as the kitchen. We take care of the kitchen extremely well.

How Exciting They Are

The minty, fresh, colourful kitchen garden is so exciting that I can’t explain it.  I have kitchen on Tuesday and garden on Thursday.  It is as much fun as having a sleep over or when you are about to go on a holiday.  To just think about what I am going to make week after week makes my mouth water.  Now you can see how much I love the kitchen garden and how much I look forward to it each week.

Conclusion

I have told you all about the kitchen garden so I need you to remember what I have told you and how much I enjoy this delicious environmental place.

GARDEN HERB STALL

There is no herb stall this week, as it is the last week of term. Many thanks to 4S who have raised over $90 for the term. Well done!

The stall will resume next term with 4A hosting on Tuesdays.
