Term 2, Week 8

Home Learning

Home Learning

Only one week left of home learning - the Grade 6 Team are looking forward to welcoming our students back on Tuesday 9th June. It has been a long and sometimes hard start to term 2, but we have seen the cohort step up to meet the challenges. The Grade 6 Team has seen so many of the students demonstrate independence, resilience and commitment to their learning during this time and we could not be more proud of each and everyone of them. And, of course, thank you to all the parents for your continued support (the light is definitely at the end of the tunnel now!)

GOOGLE MEET SESSIONS:

Information about your child's Google Meet sessions will be posted on their individual class Google Classrooms.

DAILY REFLECTIONS:

At the end of each day, we have asked the students to reflect on their work for that day. This will be through the Google Classroom and teachers will be using this information to help mark the school roll, to ensure all students are engaging with home learning tasks. If possible, please remind your child to complete this task. We  recommend setting an alarm reminder for 2:45pm.

English

Reading

This week, the students will finish reading Running Wild (chapter 8, 9 and 10). Once finished, they will write a book review outlining the story, explaining a little about the characters and providing their opinion about the book - what they enjoyed and what was challenging.

Writing

As we are starting a new Unit of Inquiry, we are beginning a new focus for writing. This week the students will be focusing on grammar in particular. Students will be exploring simple, compound and complex sentence structures and building a deeper understanding of how sentences can varying to help engage the reader.

Write2Read Codes

Students will continue to practice 30 "codes" of the English language through watching videos uploaded by their class teacher. They will continue to learn about Rule 2 through the "bootcamp" lessons. These lessons will run the same as the last two weeks. Students will need to complete and submit the assessment task.

Mathematics

This week in mathematics, students will be revising the topics covered in Term 1 and 2, in preparation for their Essential Assessment End-Tests later this term. Students will need to work through as many tasks as possible, linked to their "misunderstood" concepts. They will then complete a reflection on their work to submit on Friday.

Unit of Inquiry

This week, students will begin a new Unit of Inquiry, 'Where We are in Place and Time.' They will  inquire into the trends in migration to Australia, the responsibilities associated with migration and how people decide on leaders and governments. This week, students will start to explore their own heritage. They will complete a timeline of their life and inquire into where there given name originates from. They will conduct research into their family history that dates back to 100 years ago.

Contact

We encourage and celebrate student voice in Grade 6. If students have any concerns or questions, they can comment or post on either the whole cohort or individual class Google Classrooms. Teachers receive notifications when students post and will respond when possible. Students should also communicate questions and ideas relating to learning with each other using the two Google Classrooms. This will keep them connected and allow them to see each other's progress.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email your child’s teacher through compass.

Reminders

Children must have Google Classroom notifications turned on to ensure they are receiving communications from their classroom teacher and their peers. It would be useful if students checked the Google Classroom each day, both in the morning and again in the afternoon, to see if new information or tasks have been added.

Specialist Team

The Specialist team will be organising tasks for the students through their iNewsletter which can be accessed from here or the link the Specialists will send out each week.

Please contact Mrs Travis or Mrs Goosey if you have any questions.

Hearing Unit

Parents of Hearing Unit students, please continue to refer to your child’s weekly HU program. Please contact your child’s Teacher of the Deaf with any queries.
