Bring Your Own Device Program (BYOD – iPad)

In view of our business plan’s proposal to investigate and consult with the school community regarding the introduction of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD – iPad) from Year 4 – 6, we have started to invite parents into classrooms to see how we are using iPads to enhance learning across key learning areas. This week parents from Room 4, 21, 24, 27 and 16A watched Michelle Forrest, our professional learning coach, demonstrate how iPads could be integrated into Literacy, Maths and Music. Parents attending were very positive after these sessions and could see how the student where very much engaged in the integration of iPads into the lesson.

Next term, we would like to continue to invite parent into school to view similar lessons and also run some after-hours question and answer sessions so that the school community can make an informed decision about whether this program is deemed suitable for our school. Our proposal, at this stage, is that the BYOD program could start in 2021 with the Year 4 cohort.

Last week the school board invited Michelle Forrest (Professional Learning Coach) and Chris Johnson (Business Development Manager) from Winthrop Australia to talk to them about the support they provide to help run a successful BYOD program across 150 schools in Western Australia.

As part of this consultative process we are forming a BYOD Committee. To date we have four members and would like to extend an invitation to any parents who have an interest in this area to join this committee.
