2020 THEME - EMPOWERING LEARNING & TEACHING (REMOTELY)

Dear parents, carers and friends of the school community,

As we approach the end of week 4 of remote and flexible learning, I'd like to share with the community some of our reflections of the past few weeks.  Whilst some of the initial barriers have been overcome there was a sense of calmness as we have all adapted to the new way of going about our day to day core business.

Some positive impacts include:

-  Building resilient, adaptable and creative staff, parents and students, leading to stronger       partnership between home and school.

- Collegiate support has a positive enabler for remote and flexible learning

- Community embracing the use of digital platforms to support student learning (Seesaw and WebEX)

Term 2 onsite learning and support

A small number of students that meet the criteria outlined in the department's guidelines are being provided learning support and supervision onsite.  The numbers have increased slightly over the past two weeks which generally reflects parents and carers returning to work, with no other supervision options available.

A special thank you to Denise Clarke, Quang Nguyen and Luat Nguyen for coordinating the requests from families to have access to school devices.  Many of our laptops have been distributed to families which is great to hear that these important tools are well received and assisting students to continue to access their learning program and activities.

Letter from the Premier, Daniel Andrews

Staying apart is keeping us together:  Thank you

STUDENT SUPPORT GROUP MEETINGS (SSG's)

We always appreciate that parents and carers take the time to meet with classroom teachers to discuss their child’s progress and collaborate to plan for future individualized goals.

SSG’s will commence next week and teachers have already been scheduling times to meet (remotely).

House Colours Day:  Friday 15th May

Looking forward to see all our students in their house colours next Friday.

Wellbeing

During times of uncertainty we know how important it is we all look after ourselves.  Designing wellbeing goals can be related to your professional / work life, physical health, processing of emotions, developing supportive relationships, managing time etc. and useful document that will assist staff and students to remain positive. Please contact our Student Wellbeing Co-ordinator, Michelle Zammit zammit.michelle.m@edumail.vic.gov.au if you need any wellbeing support for your child.

Program for Students with a Disability - Year 6 /7 Reviews

There are currently 21 students undergoing the Year 6/7 Program for Students with Disabilities (PSD) Review process. As part of this process each student has undergone a Vineland and Speech Assessment. An Educational Needs Questionnaire (ENQ) has also been held for 21 students via telephone or video conference due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

ENQ’s will be held by our Student Transition Coordinator and Therapy Team Leader.

Inewsletter – our new look newsletter

To meet the needs of flexible and remote learning, we have moved to an online web-based newsletter this term.  I’ve been so thrilled with our team’s willingness to adapt and modify the way we work and connect.  This platform is provided by a local Melbourne based company and has been an efficient and effective way to design and develop our fortnightly newsletter remotely.  If you have any feedback, positive or negative,  please get in contact with me, pupillo.corinne.c@edumail.vic.gov.au
