What’s on in VCE Systems Engineering Remote Schooling Classroom?

The senior students in Unit 3 Systems Engineering have been developing a detailed engineering design brief for a unique electrotechnology machine. This project commenced in Head Start in November 2019 and has continued through remote schooling, this term. Each student is required to design and then plan out the construction steps that will be needed to manufacture their own device. This year, students have continued planning and designing throughout the entire remote schooling phase and have submitted plans via an online presentation software in the Google platform.

When we return next week, they will attempt to construct some prototypes of their individual machine, in the Engineering classroom. The final prototype will then form the basis of a complete machine that can be constructed, tested and evaluated as we progress towards the end of the year.

In the theoretical component of our course, we have been dissecting and analysing the function of a simple AC transformer. Teaching a concept such as this has been aided by using a Web Camera and a Whiteboard from my remote teaching desk. By using the Web Camera and our Zoom Video meeting software, students were able to see the parts of the device as we dissected the machine. Being able to discuss the function of the parts of the transformer and the bridge rectifier circuit board, while also observing the inside the device, has supported students understanding of the concepts while in the remote schooling model.
