Week 9, Term 2, 2020

 

Dear Parent and Carers,

 

Welcome back to all the Year 3 - 6 students this week.  It is fantastic to have all the students back at school. 

 

As advised by Catholic Education Melbourne we are  providing children with more play space. We are opening the school hall and basketball court as extra play space. The classes will be timetabled to allocated play spaces with teacher supervision at all times.  

 

Start and finish time reminders:

START REMINDERS

  • Gates open at 8:30am - 9:00am - there will be staff at each entry point ensuring students are safely supervised as they enter the schoolyard. NO CHILDREN ARE TO ENTER AT THE FRONT OFFICE.
  • Entry and exit gates: Saunders Street gate, Benny Courts gate, Hawthorn Street gate, SLA entry doors

FINISHING TIMES

  • Staggered school finish times between 3:00pm - 3:30pm
  • Learning time will finish at 3:00pm however; children will remain in their classroom with their teacher until it is time for their house colour to be dismissed.
  • House colours dismissal times:
Red Team  (Daly)3:00pm
Blue Team  (Mackillop)3:10pm
Green team  (Mannix)3:20pm
Gold Team (Lee)3:30pm
  

IMPORTANT POINTS

  • Please ensure you have arranged a designated meeting place or area for pick up with your child.
  • If for some reason, you are unable to pick up your child at the designated time please email your child’s teacher and your child will remain in the classroom until you arrive.
  • There will always be some teachers on yard duty to ensure the safety and supervision of all children. Do NOT PANIC if you are running late some days.

Thank you to all the parents over the past fortnight who have followed our procedures for drop off and pick up of the children. These procedures are necessary for the safety of all our students. Can all parents please remind their children of the importance of using the School Crossing at all times. It has been a very smooth transition back to school due to everyone’s cooperation.

 

Farewell Daniela Caruana

Daniela Caruana our LOTE teacher will be finishing at St Fidelis at the end of Term 2. Daniela has been a LOTE teacher for 6 years at St Fidelis. Daniela is moving to a new school as a generalist teacher.  

 

I wish to thank Daniela for her dedication and passion for teaching the language of Italian to the children of St Fidelis. On behalf of all the community, I wish her all the best of luck in the next chapter of her professional career. She will be truly missed by everyone.  

 

Parent/Teacher/Student conversations

As mentioned last week in keeping with the CECV advice, we will engage in our Teacher, Student, and Parent conversations in Week 11 of Term 2. The conversations will be 10 minutes in length. We have been advised that we cannot have face-to-face interviews at this stage. This term we will replace face-to-face interviews with either a Google meet or phone call between teacher, parents and student. Online bookings will open on Wednesday 10th, June.

 

The dates for these conversations are as follows:

Wednesday 24th June      4:00pm - 5:30pm

Thursday     25th June      1:30pm - 6:00pm   SCHOOL WILL FINISH AT 1:00PM on this day

 

END OF TERM FRIDAY 26TH JUNE

Students will be dismissed at the normal time of 3:00pm - 3:30pm as per current procedures in Term 2. NO EARLY FINISH.

School Fees Are Now Due

As per our new school fees policy, accounts for Term 2 will be distributed at the end of

this week with the second instalment due on June 19th . Thank you to everyone's

prompt response last term. Our school does rely on school fees for many recurrent costs so prompt payment is appreciated.

 

The office is open from 8:30 to 4:00pm each day if you would like to pay in person.

If you prefer to pay by direct debit, please use the bank details below. If any families

need to discuss alternative arrangements for the payment of fees, please contact me

directly.

Interrelate Poster Competition

A huge congratulations to Catherine in 3/4GT on being selected as one of the national finalists in the Interrelate 'Say Not to Bullying' poster competition. It is an amazing effort to be short-listed in a National Competition.  On Friday June 26th at 1:00pm, the whole school will watch the Interrelate Virtual Poster Awards in support of Catherine’s amazing achievement. We wish Catherine all the best of luck and we are very proud of her.

 

St Fidelis Partners with - 'Speech Pathology for Schools services'

St Fidelis is partnering with Speech Pathology For Schools Services (SPS) for one day of service per week. Speech Pathology for Schools provides holistic school based speech pathology support. They work collaboratively with school staff to improve student outcomes.

 

School data along with speech pathology data is used to target support and monitor student progress. If you have any queries regarding speech pathology services at St Fidelis, please contact Ms Di Manthos, our Literacy Leader, or Michele Hedley, our Learning Diversity Leader. 

 

St Fidelis is focusing SPS services literacy based assessment and intervention services for the Foundation to Year 2 students at this stage. The speech pathologist will work collaboratively with the school leadership team, teachers and Learning Support Officers (LSO) to help meet the needs of students experiencing literacy difficulties. 

 

St Fidelis welcomes SPS as a valued addition to the school community and Allied Health Services provided by CEM.
