Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge News

The Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge is in full swing at EDSC, with participants making excellent progress. Congratulations to Nanaki Ratiu of 8G who has become the second EDSC student to complete the Challenge. Well done also to Year 9, whose recent increase in participants means they now have the second most students in the Challenge, after Year 7.

Students in years 7 to 10 are still encouraged to sign up to the Challenge, as they have until September 4 to read 15 books and can include any books read since the start of March, including English and EAL novels. Every student who completes the Challenge will receive a certificate signed by the Victorian Premier and former premiers.

To sign up or for more information please contact Ms Andersen at andersen.emily@eastdonsc.vic.edu.au or sign up in the Library.

Further information for parents can be found at the official website at www.education.vic.gov.au/prc

Students are also encouraged to come into the library and borrow books for the Challenge and holiday reading. Some of our exciting new titles include the new Hunger Games novel,

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, by Suzanne Collins; the latest Alex Rider book,

Nightshade, by Anthony Horowitz; The Testaments, by Margaret Atwood;  Slime,

by David Walliams; and Aurora Burning,

by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. We also have all of the shortlisted books for the Children’s Book Council of Australia Book of the Year for Older Readers.
