2020 Parent Payment Schedule

Thank you to the large number of families that have supported the school this year via the school's Parent Payments Program. Your support makes a significant difference to the quality of programs and classroom resourcing that we're able to provide to students at our school. If

To assist families in budgeting for next year's Parent Payment Program, School Council has approved the following fee schedule which has been developed in accordance with the school's Parent Payment Policy:

Essential Education Items: $410 per student (P-6)

Curriculum Enhancement: $225 per student (P-4)

Curriculum Enhancement: $145 per student (5/6)

School Nurse: $95 per student (P-6)

Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program: $245 per student (Years 3-6 only)

ASPS Family Assistance Fund** (suggested contribution of $15 per family)

** The ASPS Family Assistance Fund is a new initiative from School Council which will be established to support those families that are in crisis or experiencing financial hardship. Funds contributed to this initiative will support student participation in school activities, the purchase of school uniform, shoes and other essential items. We are also working with school partners to provide food vouchers as temporary support to families experiencing hardship.

In addition to the payments listed above, the school also invites families to make tax deductible donations towards the school's Library and Building Trust Fund. In 2019, donations to these funds (along with those raised via local fundraising initiatives) supported the following projects:

- Re-carpeting of the Main Building

- Re-furbishment of the Main Toilet Block

- Furniture upgrade in Years 4 and 5

- Heating and Cooling in the Multi-Purpose Hall (preferred quote and contractor approved at this week's school council meeting!)

If you haven't yet paid this year's fees, it's not too late with final reminders being sent home by the end of next week. Thank you in advance for your continued support.

Managing Screentime and Devices at Home: What is Your Family Plan or Agreement?

As part of the recent Cyber Safety Parent Workshops, parents were encouraged to reflect on what their family agreement is when it comes to screentime and the use of devices when at home.  The Cyber Safety Project recommended the following:

No screens in their bedroom

No screens in bathrooms or toilets

Charged in a common area

Set screen time limits

Monday Monitoring (ideas via Face Book page)

Social Media Age restrictions: Children should not be using social media platforms such as Instagram and Snapchat before the age of 13. Warnings were provided in relation to platforms such as Tik Tok, Yubo, You Tube (including Kids Tube) and other anonymous chat applications (see slides for details)

Rules are rules! Adults need to model the same behaviours at home.

For families that are struggling at home in terms of monitoring or reeling in your child's use of a device, please don't hesitate to reach out to the school for support.  For students with a BYOD computer, please note that these devices can be left at school overnight if your child is not following your screentime and device usage agreement. If enough families are keen on leaving devices at the school, we will invest in some lockable charging stations. for each of the Year 5 and 6 teams.

Commemorative Family Path Update

I am delighted to report that the first stage of the Commemorative Family Path has been laid. Sincere thanks to ASPS parents, Hollie Cleven and Lisa McCarthy for their efforts in coordinating the Family Path fundraiser and to Andrea Clements, our resident garden specialist teacher, for her efforts in supporting this great initiative. Thanks are also extended to the large number of current and former families and staff for purchasing a personalised paver!

As per previous editions of the newsletter, the school has applied for funding as part of the Inclusive Schools Fund to transform this space into the Auburn South Sensory Garden. we expect to find out whether our grant application has been successful or not over the next few weeks.

2019 Maths Olympiad Team

We have come to the conclusion of another fantastic year of Math Olympiads at Auburn South! It has been a real pleasure to work with a group of enthusiastic, creative, and inquisitive learners. The Olympiad program is designed to be very challenging and as a result everyone who participated this year is to be commended for the consistent determination and resilience they brought to each session.

We will be celebrating the accomplishments of these learners during assembly on Monday 25 November and would love if you could join.
