Supervision of students before and after school
Please be aware that the school provides staff supervision of students in the grounds before school from 8.25-8.50 am. After school supervision is provided between 3.15 pm and 3.40 pm.
Parents/carers are:
- discouraged from sending their child/ren to school before the designated supervision time in the morning.
- encouraged to pick up their child/ren by the end of the designated end of day supervision period.
Students remaining in the school yard awaiting collection after 3.45 pm should wait in the library foyer or at the front of the library.
Progress Reports
Although it seems no time since the start of the school year, teachers will soon be completing Progress Reports for students. These reports will be published through Compass and will be available to parents on Friday, 11 March. Parent/teacher/student interviews will take place on Tuesday, 22 March, prior to the Term break. Arrangements for making appointments with teachers will be advised prior to the booking system being opened. Although there are no scheduled classes on the day of interviews, students are expected to attend with their parent/carer/s.

SENIOR SCHOOL
Leaders Abound!
The presence of leadership in schools, particularly student leaders, must never be underestimated or taken for granted. The ‘tone’ of a school, researchers suggest, is set by its VCE cohort, particularly those students in Year 12. Further, the impetus of leadership and becoming role models is emphasised for all our VCE students. Here at RSC, we are fortunate in having such a fine cohort of student leaders.
The Prefect Induction was indeed another momentous occasion that saw our guest speaker, the Mayor of Maroondah, Cr Natalie Thomas, address our prefects on leadership and indeed, the path traversed by Natalie herself. A speech that was very much appreciated by all who attended.
We would like to thank all the parents that attended, our delightful Year 7 audience and all the teachers that gave up their class time to be present.
The link to the program is available here.
Congratulations to the incoming Prefects of 2016.

The MEC Study
Day
As you read this report, all our Year 12 cohort have just returned from a day of study skills and specialised English tuition, that was held at Deakin University at Burwood. It was a very successful day and feedback from the students was very positive.
Thank you to all staff that attended and thank you to all our students for their diligence, commitment and exemplary behaviour.
A more detailed report will be available in the next newsletter.

MIDDLE SCHOOL
It has been a busy but productive
fortnight. Thank you to Ms Watson for her report which you will find in this edition of the newsetter.
We congratulate students who achieved personal bests in the recent swimming carnival and we were thrilled with the commitment of Middle School students to their Houses. The swimming carnival is a whole school event and there is an expectation that all students attend. Thank you to parents for their support. Best wishes to students and staff on the World Tour.
Common Assemblies and Bounce
On Tuesdays students are involved in either a year level Common Assembly or a Bounce session. Visiting both the Year 10 Common Assembly and each of the Bounce classes this week gave me a great sense of pride and satisfaction in seeing students and staff engaged in valuable activities which enhance their emotional intelligence and understanding. It also confirmed to me that we are providing an excellent springboard for students in which to build the skills they need in readiness for learning now and beyond school. Last night, at the invitation of our college principal Michael Phillips, a group of Ringwood Secondary College staff gathered at Genezanno College with hundreds of other educators to watch ‘Most Likely to Succeed,’ a thought provoking film about the complexities we face as educators in an education system created last century. A take home message from the film is that we need to target and refine our emphasis on the skills of collaboration, empathy, creativity, critical thinking, organisation as these are some of the key skills necessary for the environment students find themselves in now. Common Assemblies and the Bounce program work in tandem to support the development of these skills and we encourage students to continue to be fully involved in both.
Parent-Teacher –Student Interviews
Students are encouraged to attend interviews on the 22nd of March to participate in the discussions with their parents and teachers about their progress at this early stage of the year.
Debutante Ball
I am reminded of what a terrific community spirit surrounds the lead up to the Debutante Ball and the night itself. The involvement of 106 Year 12 students is the largest cohort we have ever had and rehearsals have taken place in a variety of venues including the hall, gym and the basket ball courts. Our magnificent supportive teams who are present at rehearsals, from the PCTA parent co-ordinator and Year 12 parent helpers, dance instructors, community co-ordinators, to the students themselves, help create the fun and energy at every rehearsal which is visible in the smiles and laughter of all participants. There is also serious dancing to be done and with only two rehearsals until the big event, students are concentrating on perfecting their dance routines. The Debutante Ball promises to be a wonderful night on the 5th of March at The Grand.
PCTA
We have welcomed new members to the PCTA this year and we are certainly fortunate for the parent interest in the committee. Drawing on the momentum created last year around the parent information night on Positive Psychology, the committee is again keen to organise an information night for parents later on in the year and is discussing topics of interest to parents.

JUNIOR SCHOOL
Year 7 Transition
The past few weeks have been very busy for all Year 7 students!
Students have participated in one of the two Wellbeing days, consisting of study skills, cyber-bullying, a focusing on management of their iPads plus ‘getting to know you’ activities. The Swimming Sports were full of fun, friendly interactions and lots of water! It has been wonderful to see the student’s positive participation in the wide range of events.
Adventure Park is always a great day for our students; despite the rain the students enjoyed the large range of water activities, interaction with staff whilst making new friendships.
Music Recruitment evening held last Monday (Feb 22nd) allowed parents and students the opportunity to discuss their child’s choice of musical instrument, listened to speakers talk about the music program as well as meeting College music staff.
The Music Association, an energetic group of volunteers were present on the evening and as always support both staff and students during the year helping out with a range of music evenings, and the College musical production. They are looking for extra parent helpers for 2016, so if you are interested please contact the College reception for more details.

On Wednesday, February 17th, the Year 7 and 8 Ambassadors participated in Maroondah schools leadership training, with Heathmont College and Melba College. Held at REALM in Eastland, the neutral space allowed for our student’s to focus on the content whilst providing them with a greater awareness of leadership skills essential for successful teamwork. The training will also provide them with key knowledge to assist with College tours and other major events throughout the year. Already, these students have displayed great confidence and knowledge of the College and its programs.
