Cinefest Opportunity

Hi

I'm the Community Film & Engagement Officer with CinefestOZ Film Festival and we're promoting our Filmmaking Masterclass presented by Myles Pollard and the Cinesnaps short film competition to students across the South West.

As Cornerstone Christian College has been involved in the past we were wanting to make sure that students and parents are aware of the upcoming event and competition.

Please don’t hesitate to call me on 0401 054 672 or email me on cinesnaps@cinefestoz.com if you’d like any more information.

French Exchange Program

For the last 15 years a programme has been in place offering the opportunity to young French students aged 14-17 years to discover Australia and its education system.

We are looking for families willing to host students for the four weeks of their visit. They will travel to and from School with your children.

The purpose of the programme is for these French students to experience living with an Australian family, to see how an Australian school operates, to improve their English language skills through this full immersion and to create a strong friendship with their Anglophone peers.  The programme is highly successful and both Australians and French students greatly enjoy the exchange.     Many families still keep in touch with each other.

The students are fully briefed about the school rules, are not to leave the school premises and will attend classes daily.     They will be fully covered by appropriate insurance.

Host families will be visited prior to the arrival by the organiser to explain the programme.

We believe such an exchange is also highly beneficial for our Modern Languages students, opening their eyes (and ears!) to similarly minded students for an extended period.

Please contact  Martine  Floyd, email :  martine.floyd@iinet.net.au ,  mob : 0403 019 609

if you are interested in hosting.

Crossing Instructions

For those utilising the crossing on Queen Elizabeth Avenue, please note the following instructions that have been given to us for all users.

The operational rules are as follows:

 On approaching the cross walk persons riding a bicycle is to dismount prior to crossing – all

bicycles are to be walked across the cross walk to avoid accidents

 Persons are to wait until the Traffic Warden has entered the middle of the road, ensures

that all traffic has stopped

 When all is safe, Traffic Warden gives two (2) short blasts of their whistle indicating to

people that it is safe to cross

 The Traffic Warden does not exit the road until all persons have safely crossed

 A long blast of the whistle indicates an emergency and all persons are to stop walking

 Keep in mind, that although the Traffic Warden is out in the middle of the road with flags

held high, some traffic still will not stop – this is why it is important for the persons crossing

to wait for the whistle to be blown

Students and adults who do not wish to follow the rules may cross the road at an alternative

distance (further than 20 metres) from the crossing at their own risk.

Thanks for your help in keeping our students safe!
