Campus Stories

Swimming Training

Some of the senior primary students have been training after school, in preparation for the upcoming swimming carnival. A great start this week under the watchful eye of Jodi Kelso.

Thanks Jodi, and well done students!

Caring for others

At the end of last year the students, families and staff at the Dunsborough campus held a free dress day.  Students were asked to bring in a non-perishable food item or something that could be shared around the Christmas table as a donation to wear free dress.

They collected 5 crates of food and Christmas treats (including festive toilet paper!). The items were donated to St. George's Anglican Church in Dunsborough.  The Emergency Relief Team from St. George's reported back to us this week that our donation helped them provide 28 hampers to local families who were experiencing financial distress during the Christmas season. A wonderful opportunity for us to share our many blessings with those in need. Well done everyone!

Amazing Muffins

Year 11 & Year 12 Food Science Technology class made muffins last week. Mr Cam and Mr van der Tang were treated to a really tasty spread. The rest of the staff want to know when it's their turn to visit the class!

Well done, ladies.

New Family BBQ

There's been a lot unfolding in recent days at the College, and last week we welcomed some of our new Busselton families at our annual 'New Family BBQ'. This is where those who have joined our community in 2020 (with students in Pre-Primary and Year 12) meet with staff over a simple meal.

Thank you to everyone who came. We appreciated having you with us, and trust that your entry into Cornerstone Christian College has been a joy.

Buckets of Blessing

The Buckets of Blessing fundraising campaign has come to an end - but $2860 was raised!  That's amazing! The Primary student councillors from Busselton (some of them pictured here) were busily coordinating donations over the first few weeks of school, that were given to the Bush Fire appeal via the Bunbury Fire Station and Red Cross.

The conclusion to this initiaitve intended to see our oval ablaze with activity, with a range of fun events planned with the fire-management theme. However the brilliant fire service team was called out to a real fire emergency, and so a postponment for their visit occurred.  However, Plan B was put into play (more of that in the next item).

Thank you to everyone who has got behind this concept - and special thanks to Mr Meyerink and Mr Coutts for their energetic oversight. We are grateful for all involved.

Fire Fundraiser Water Play

Last week provided a very real example of the life in the emergency services. Our planned visit by the Bunbury Fire Brigade, as part of the fundraising effort for the bushfires was suspended, because the fire team were called to an emergency and were held up for most of the day.

Mr Meyerink and Mrs Ackerman took matters into their own hands, and provided students with an alternative rotation of fun water events that fitted with the fundraising theme - and whilst a big red truck or two would have been wonderful, it was a brilliant solution to end this project. Instead of pulling a fire truck, a smaller group of students had to pull Mr Burnley on the ride-on-mower. Instead of ladder climbs, a timed obstacle course was put in place. The creative adjustments were quite clever.

Well done Mr M and Mrs A. We love your resourcefulness in making sure the students didn't miss out.

NEWS FLASH!  The students raised $2870 dollars for the cause!  What an amazing result!

Dunsborough's Hot Morning Tea!

An amazing job by the Year 5 and Year 6 students at Dunsborough, who made an brilliant decision to fund-raise with a special morning tea last week, with funds heading to the Bush-fire Appeal.  They raised a huge $270 for their hard work - all of which will go to those who have lost everything in the recent bushfires.

Well done, students.

Swimming Secondary Style

The Secondary Swimming Carnival was a fabulous day of celebrating the Aussie Summer - and the best of community. Special thanks to Mr Cleaver and Mr Spencer for the significant coordination roles that made the day such a success.

Here's a few photos which captured the day.

Survive and Shine (SAS)

Survive and Shine (SAS) is an initiative that is run for our Year 12 students, which helps them learn skills to flourish in their final year of school. Designed to provide a space to engage with each other, learn more about themselves, reflect on what their goals are, and develop skills to study to the best of their ability, the program is a highlight on the school calendar.

The first of four SAS events unfolded during this last week, with a high ropes course, followed by a time of reflection at the beach provided. Mr Meyer, along with other significant secondary teachers, made the day one to remember.

You've got this, Class of 2020. We are praying for you each step of the way.

SAS Videos

What to see some videos of SAS Day action - sure, we can do that too!

And then there was Matthew Robinson on the bike....

Science on Show

The sciences have been strong at the College today, with plenty of examples provided for students to experience. Scitech was on hand, and worked with the high school students throughout the morning.

Here's a few moments that Mr Cleaver and Mr Meyer captured.

It's all in the head

It's time for our senior Human Biology students, and Psychology students to get inside the brain - and Mr Arthur and Mrs Lucas have been directing the student's scalpels with precision.  These budding medicos were looking very much at ease with the explorations that unfolded in class this week.

Smart Teaching

You can tell when someone's a hugely experienced teacher - they find ways to share their knowledge that are quite genius.

Our Year 11 and Year 12 Outdoor Education students were completing their mandatory swim last week - and Mr Spencer was right in the midst of the action - but completely dry.

Mrs Langenhoven caught this moment of him teaching from his SUP.

We hope he at least got splashed!

Budding Chemists

Year 12 Chemistry went off with a bang last week, when the Class of 2020 conducted their first significant experiments with Mr Meyer. Mr Meyer was very enthusiastic about his cohort's performance, and was good enough to capture a few photos of things as they unfolded.
