Around the College

Volunteering

We love having volunteers working at the College. It's this partnership that is pivotal in the success of our academic program.

To help you understand the process, please find below the guidelines that we must adhere to.

Parents and legal guardians who volunteer in their child’s classroom are exempt from needing a volunteer Working With Children Card (WWCC).

Parents and legal guardians who volunteer in another class need to complete a College Volunteer Agreement before they help. These available from the College office.  This is to comply with Child Protection requirements.

ALL OTHER VOLUNTEERS NEED A Working With Children Card.   All volunteers need to sign in at the front office.

A few application forms will be kept in the office. The cost of the card for volunteers is currently $11.

If you have any questions, please talk to your child's teacher, or the office administration.  We are here to help you, help us!

Community Health Nurse

A note from the Community Health Nurse

Welcome to the new school year. My name is Serena Robinson and I am the Community Health Nurse who visits your school. I work with a team of School Health Nurses (Karen Bryen, Jill Rogers, Rochelle Mead and Danielle Marsden).

Community Health Nurses work with schools to promote healthy development and wellbeing so students are able to reach their full potential. A major part of my work is focused on early intervention and the School Entry Health Assessment program.

Community Health Nurses serve as a health contact point for children and their families, provide information and resources, assessment, health counselling and referral to child development services. The services provided are free and confidential.

If you have any concerns about your child’s health or development, please feel free to contact me:

Secondary Assistance Scheme

If you have a Secondary student, and hold a Centrelink Health Care Card, you may be eligible to claim from the 2020 Secondary Assistance Scheme.

Forms are available at the Administration in Busselton.  You just need to let the College sight your Health Care Card, complete the form, and then we will submit the document on your behalf.

This scheme closes on Thursday 9 April, so act today to avoid disappointment.

Year 7 Parents and Students Afternoon Tea

This Wednesday afternoon, we are hosting a simple afternoon tea event for our newest highschool students and their parents.

We invite you to join us in the quadrangle after school, meet your child's teachers and other parents, and participate in a short presentation on how to utilise the SEQTA communication system.

Enrolments in 2021

It seems to be very early to be putting this information out to the community, but if you have younger siblings you wish to enrol at Cornerstone next year, or have friends or family who are interested in joining us, now is a good time to act.

We have had a burst of enquiries in recent days about school for next year, and some classes are looking as though they could have waiting lists in place.  If you wish to ensure that your loved ones have a position next year, we'd suggest you get them to make contact as soon as possible.  It's never too early to secure your place at Cornerstone!

Big things are happening in the Secondary School!

Cornerstone Christian College is hosting the "Emerging Leaders of Tomorrow Forum" between 11 and 13 March, 2020 (Week 6).  It is a combined initiative of the College, the Dunsborough Yallingup Chamber of Commerce and the Busselton Chamber of Commerce.  It will run concurrently with the Cadets' "Tribal Camp".  The focus of the event is to engage students in the development of our region, particularly the necessity of developing the airport which will have a significant flow-on effect for all aspects of the region's economy.  Various speakers representing some of the southwest's major industries and organisations will present.  Our mayor, Grant Henley will be presenting as well as the Federal minister for our region, Nola Marino.

Students will be broken into groups and will research specific aspects of the southwest's economy and their link with the airport development.  The groups will comprise a mix of students from Year 7 through to Year 11.  Students will have a unique opportunity to participate in a truly authentic learning experience getting to engage with real issues and the movers and shakers of our region.  They will then work together to create an expo-type display which will be available for viewing after lunch on Friday, 13 March.  Parents are encouraged to attend.

The project fulfills curriculum objectives, especially the "General Capabilities" framework which foregrounds specific subject offerings.  Another exciting aspect of the event is that we will be joined by representatives from Busselton High School, Georgiana Molloy Anglican School, Margaret River High School and St Mary McKillop College.

This has been a project that Mr van der Tang has invested heavily into, and we are so grateful for his enthusiasm and leadership in this field.
