What's happening at CHPS

Music News
Christmas Carols on the Oval – will begin at 7pm on Wednesday December 12th.
In the event of rain, we will make a decision about cancellation as late in the school day as possible and will notify students by a PA message at dismissal and a posting on Compass and Facebook for parents. If weather is uncertain please send students in costume, with a waterproof jacket over the top and a plastic bag to sit on.
At 6:45pm all students are to go to sit with their class and teacher and are to remain there for the duration of the concert. Parents, please sit in the audience area. The students have all been practising their audience etiquette – sitting quietly and listening, respectfully – and this is very much what the Carols Night is about. We hope parents will set a good example for their children in this matter.

Currently, David is guitarist and backing vocalist with leading Australian pop stars Guy Sebastian and Anthony Callea, and in the past he has worked with many others, including Delta Goodrem, Aloe Blacc, Lupe Fiasco, Samantha Jade and Shannon Noll. David has also been a music teacher for nearly 15 years, privately and at various schools around Melbourne. He has a Bachelor of Applied Music with Honours, and is currently studying his Masters of Arts (Music Performance) at Monash University.
Instruments offered will be guitar and bass taught by David, piano - an AMEB program, drums and vocals.

Sports News
Prep / Junior House Sports
The annual Prep / Junior House Sports is coming up next Tuesday December 11th. Could I please ask parents to make sure they have paid and given consent for their child to attend, as children will unfortunately have to sit out if this hasn’t been done. Children can wear their house colours for the day. Could we please have some volunteers to assist, as we are still about 20 helpers short, with 3 ovals full of activities run by Kelly Sports. We look forward to having a fun-filled morning! Activities will commence around 9.15am till about 11.00am.
Billy Cart Grand Prix and Soap Box Derby
Another reminder that the Soap Box Derby (Years Prep - 4) and the Billy Cart Grand Prix (Years 5/6 only) will be held again on the last day of the school year on the oval. There are still plenty of boxes left over from Election Day for us to use, so if you wish to take one and transform it into something spectacular and sturdy for 2 children to run in, please come and grab one from the Stadium.
Soap Box Derby:
- only 2 children in a box, they must be one behind the other
- the box must be intact when crossing the finishing line, otherwise the pair cannot get a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place
- Boys / Mixed Race & Girls Race
- Competitors must swap half way through the race in the Pit Stop, so that the passenger gets a chance to lead the race
- Both students must be in the box together
Billy Cart Grand Prix
- 2 races - boys’ race and a girls’ race
- trophies for first in each race
- trophy for best dressed
- billycarts to be simple in design so that the pusher can handle it
- no working pedals to turn the wheels,
- YOU MUST WEAR A HELMET…. NO HELMET NO RACING!!

Library News
We still have some Library returns that are outstanding.
If your child has an overdue book at the end of the year it does not magically disappear from the system – it is carried over to next year and your child will not be able to borrow until this is rectified. If you have previously paid for a lost book and it turns up in good condition during stocktake (sometimes it has been in the classroom and is only found when tubs are cleaned out or teachers return their books. Other times it is found in the Library in the wrong spot) your money will be credited to your school account and you will be notified. Unless it is a very popular title I do not purchase a replacement until after stocktake for this reason.
