Principal's Report

Another fantastic week at ACPS

Even though its getting colder we are still being really active. Our Grade 5 and 6 students competed in our first Winter interschool sport match this week - we are really keen to include all our grade 5 and 6 students so that everyone has a go. We rotate Captains so that more students get the opportunity to take a leading role. We do a Sports Report at the end of each round where the Captains all speak about the highlights for them. There were several highlights this week: we found some students were playing a new sport for the first time and loved it! One student who was new to netball shot a goal! Some students were praised for their fabulous work on the field in soccer. We really pride ourselves on being proud of representing our school and including all our students- as it is all about learning through teamwork. It was great to see so many positives out there!

Thanks also to all our Mums and Dads who volunteered at the Mothers Day Stall led by Jaime Noye! Well done!

Cross country

Luckily we postponed Cross Country until Monday May 9.

Grade 3- 6 will depart school at 11.30.

Grade 1 and 2 will come after their Professor Bunsen incursion - the Preps will come with them for their Fun Run.

We'll all enjoy a picnic (no food sharing) and then play a few games before walking back to school.

Kilometre Club 8.45 Wednesday 11 May

Next week from Wednesday 11 May we will start our days with Kilometre Club. All students are welcome to participate on the oval. Our grade 6 leaders will record the number of laps each student completes.   The idea is to start each day with a positive mind set ready to enjoy learning. Everyone welcome!

MOTHER’S DAY STALL

What an amazing stall we had yesterday!  The kids from all grades had a fabulous time shopping for their mums, nans, carers and loved ones, and it was such a joy to see them all pick something special out from the tables of treasures.

In our extremely busy lives, juggling returning to normal and of course with Covid still hanging around…I was incredibly grateful for the support of the following parents:  Jacqui Burden, Georgie Ouliaris, Lynne Kruger, Michelle Pearson Neale, Shane Murphy, Jess Longstaff, Lily Eshraghi and Alison Grieg.  A bunch of fantastic ladies and one dad(!), all giving up their personal time, made for a very successful day.

Many thanks,

Jaime Noye

Shoes everywhere!

Thanks again for a very successful shoe recycling drive last term. This week Andersons Creek Primary School were formally announced as the VICTORIAN WINNER with 475 pairs of shoes being donated by children, family and staff. We loved the idea of matching a school full of children who are sports mad with a sustainability opportunity. We saw firsthand through all the boxes collected what a group of children can do to help our planet. Small steps to big things! Congratulations to our fellow Victorians at Balnarring Primary School who were the national winners with 798 pairs of shoes! Go Victoria!

Wednesday 11 May - NUDE FOOD WEDNESDAY IS STARTING. Please try to bring lunch with only reusable containers each Wednesday. Nude Food is good for your health and the environment and helps keep our playground beautiful. Classes will compete against each other for the 'Rubbish free Lunch' trophy which will be awarded at Assembly each week.

The Chickens and Children's garden are growing well. If you would like to join the Chicken Care roster for a week this term please email Sarah Bailey Sarah.Bailey2@education.vic.gov.au There are clear instructions and lots of support so no experience is necessary. We also are looking for some new vegie boxes to add to our garden so let Sarah know if you have any suitable containers to donate.

SCULPTURE at The Pines

We’ve been invited to create a sculpture for World Environment Day by the Pines Shopping Centre. Our Art Teacher (Julie Clarke) and Green Thumbs Coordinator (Sarah Bailey of 2SB) are working with the Green Thumbs team, the Arts Captains and other students to create a large, see-through fish, filled with our soft recycled plastic. It will have many smaller plastic fish around it, and will highlight the importance of keeping plastic rubbish out of our waterways so our fish can live well as we all share this planet together. We will also be able to share about our recycling program at ACPS. The display at the Pines Shopping Centre will be ready by the beginning of June.

Students already recycle their soft plastics from their lunch boxes at school. We invite students to collect and bring in their family's clean soft plastics to contribute to the sculpture at school. The soft plastics can be 'posted' into the fish in the front office next week. Please also bring clean plastic milk bottles and soft drink bottles to the art room - the more the better! If you are able to help a step further, older students and families can cut out smaller plastic fish from the milk bottles to bring in - six fish can be cut out from one 3-litre milk bottle. Please see the picture above for an example of how the fish may look, but you are welcome to add other details like fins if you would like. A big thank you to our school community for helping with our sculpture!

Thanks Julie and Sarah for your creative ideas and initiative.

Lock the date in your diaries and come celebrate our 2022 Education Week fun!

We're saying goodbye to Konnective and hello to Compass...

As you know we are phasing out Konnective (our online app) and moving fully to Compass from Friday May 6, 2022.

Student Attendance:

  • Full Day Absence:

Parents/Carers (prior to 9am) are now required to record student absences via Compass, taking away the need to phone the school.

  • Appointments/High School Tours etc:

Parents/Carers (prior to 9am) are to register the absence for the morning session.

Upon arrival at school, with your child sign in via the Kiosk (in the Office).

  • Late arrivals: After 9am: This is a change from our previous practice where a late arrival was considered 9.15am. Late arrival is now after 9.00am
  • Parents/Carers after 9am, please ensure that you walk your child up to the office to sign them in via the Compass kiosk. Please give the printed slip to your child’s teacher.
  • Early Departures:

Parents/Carers please ensure that you come to the office first and sign your child out using the online kiosk and then deliver the printed slip to your child’s class teacher prior to collecting your child. Please note: In line with our Child Safe practices, teachers cannot release students without receiving the printed slip.

 Compass will now be used for but not limited to the following;

 1. Compass will the platform for communication from the school, superseding Konnective.

 2. Parents will be able to directly email teachers from Compass.

 3. Excursions/Events permission slips will be uploaded on Compass.

 4. Payment for most ‘opt in’ excursions/events will be processed through Compass.

 5. Grade 3 - 6 Student Learning Diaries (SLD) will be uploaded onto Compass for parents/carers to view.

 6. School reports will be viewed on Compass and will be available for downloading and printing by parents/carers.

 7. Parents/Carers will be able to book Parent Teacher Interviews.

For your convenience please download the Compass App onto your phone. Any families who did not receive their log in details, please contact Jo for assistance on 9844 2757.

There are always teething problems when moving to a new system, so I kindly ask we work together in its implementation. Please call us if you have any concerns or issues and we will endeavour to assist you.
